Shoot. The worse part of the entire job is breaking the old hoses loose after being heated for years by the engine. Very frustrating, but it only took me about 30 minutes, tops!
If you want a really sore feeling, try replacing the fuel filter / regulator assembly. It is under the fuel tank protective cover that seemingly cannot be completely removed. I removed all the screws as indicated in the Bentley Manual, which has become my friend, I might add, and even removed the drive shaft brace to allow more clearance. Nothing worked. Finally ended up working with my hands over the side of the cover and managed to get the filter removed and re-installed. The BMW service tech was surprised I had accomplished that on an E53 - "Very labor intensive." he said - no joke! Especially from a position underneath the vehicle on a concrete floor. By the way, when trying to find the correct clearances to remove the fuel tank cover, I removed several plastic rivets from the covering for the driver's side running board. I purchased new ones from the dealer, then found that my riveter didn't have an adapter that would let me re-install them. Word to the wise. Harbor Freight or Northern Tool (we have both in Houston and I'm not sure, but Northern Tool may have been my salvation for that job) have a "Plastic rivet" kit that costs about $ 12 and comes complete with the tool and an assortment of rivets that you could probably use to re-install any of the underside covers held by these breakaway shaft based rivets. Of course they will probably work in any area where these plastic rivets are used. I think the kit was less expensive than the eivets I purchased from the stealer, now that I think about it! THANKS! Will give this a try
Hey:
Thanks for posting this. I have the code and will do a valve replacement. I've made a few posts about repairing tail lamps and installing trailer brake controllers, and I keep getting emails from people thanking me for my input. Now, its time for me to pass it on. MUCH APPRECIATE owners like yourself helping the rest of us out! Good on YOU! MHK |

P1093 Code
All: I am get the P1093 code running too lean on bank 2. I have replace everthing imaginable. The dealer says it's fuel maybe the corrosion in tank. I have done 2 engine flushes and used 4 cans of fuel additive. Could it be the Fuel vent/breather causing the CEL light or a corroded fuel tank. The vehicle sat for two years in Texas -- I bought as a repo.
