Fuel gauge senders

Hi all,
Does someone knows why BMW uses 2 senders for the fuel gauge instead of only one? I ask the question as I have a problem with the fuel tank (the engine runs out of fuel while 20 liters are still in the tank) and I wondered if one of the senders would be connected to the fuel pump? It is a 3.0 I.
Thanks,

from changing the senders and pump in our 98 323, I believe there are two as the tank has a 'hump' in the middle. it needs two so it is accurate. this also helps with a proper reading when the fule moves (cornering etc).

yes, one sender is connnected on the pump side as well. I have heard easy access is gained under the rear seat. start with a low tank volume to reduce vapors etc.

Thanks for the reply! My problem is that the last 20 liters of fuel in the tank is never sucked by the pump, means that I'm running out of fuel while there are still 20 liters in the tank! No problem between 20 liters and the full tank though. So the question I asked, if one of the senders (the one which is not connected to the pump) doesn't work, maybe the fuel which is on the other side of the "bump" cannot be pumped... BTW, each time I'm refuelling, I can put only 75 liters in the tank, this proves that some fuel is remaining in it.

Did somebody change the pump for one from a different model just to sell it???
Time to start inspecting as there is obviously something wrong in your system.

maybe the connection over the hump is disconnected? ( if there is in fact a hump)

just corner harder as the fuel goes down....
