Rattle when closing front driver or passenger door

I have a 54 plate 3.0d Sport X and I've noticed that when I close either the drivers or passenger side door, it clinks/rattles like a Ford door would when closed.

I initially thought it was the Aluminium running boards which were loose but yesterday I noticed my drivers side window started to rattle which led me to think it could be the a loose windows regulator that needs tightening.

The sound doesn't appear when I close the rear doors, I get the BMW ooomph door sound.

Anyone experience the same?

Yeah, mine is on the driver side only and is more noticable when the window is down. Im the second owner so I dont know if the previous owner attempted a DIY or had a shop do work on that door. I dont like it very much but isnt too big of a deal. I have an appointment to get my door acctuator fixed tomorrrow so I'll ask the guy fixing it what the deal is with that, then report back here to give some feedback. I'm pretty curious about this too

Yes it is the window regulator... You'll need it fixed before it eventually just stops working and your window will be stuck down inside the door. Until then, try not to slam the doors shut, be gentle when shutting the doors to the X.

I've actually implemented this method of shutting all doors to the X gently and for the past 2 years i haven't had to replace any more regulators. I've replaced 3 total. Then I figured out it was the heavy doors of the X and the doors slamming shut that caused them to break.

Thanks for the response.

My car is going to the dealer next Monday to sort some things out so I'll report back my findings as well. I had a e46 which regulators went at 44k miles as well.

I have found that applying some gummy phledge around the windows seals has minimised the rattles when driving but the clink sound is still there when the door is closed on either side.

I took the X to the indy to get the door acctuator fixed today and mentioned how my door sounds "hollow" when I shut it. Turns out where the window regulator bolts the door was loose. Whoever was in there before either forgot to tighten the bolt completely or it might have come loose over time. The bolt was tightened and now the driver door sounds just like the other doors--solid . I can finally open my door from the outside--got a fresh oil change--a full tank of chevron gas with the addition of techron fuel treatment --hopefully the X will be happy for a while ( Hopefully nothing will break soon --a guy can dream cant he ).

Excellent, thanks for the feedback and I'm pleased to hear your problem is resolved. The dealership have my car for the weekend so hopefully my car will sound like a BMW rather than a Ford.
