UPDATED: Just got my X5 back, much improved. Couldn't diagnose the Transfail safe error.

Great list, mine is in with the dealers with the following:

1. Driver’s seat squeaks each time I get in/out or take a corner or just shift my weight.

BMW DEALER: Removed Seat from Vehicle, strip and lubricate all pivot points.

2. Squeaky Steering turning left to right after car has warmed up for 20-30mins.

BMW DEALER: Add additive to Power steering fluid reference BMW measure for noise from steering.

3. Front drivers and passenger side door rattles/clinks/vibrates when closed

BMW DEALER: Removed trims, lubricate seals and tightened windows regulators.

4. Engine/Turbo provides a single ‘beep’ like a heart rate machine when accelerating hard and turbo engages.

BMW DEALER: Add additive to Auto gearbox reference BMW measure from noise from gearbox

5. Trans. failsafe Prog Warning error message appear intemittently

BMW DEALER: Unable to reproduce problem during test drive. No faults found. Carried out Battery test which failed. Possible cause of error. Recharged battery.

6. Gears do not always engage forward or reverse unless engine is revving around 3500rpm.

BMW DEALER: Unable to reproduce problem during test drive.

I'll post what they've done with the car when I get it back, they've had it for nearly 1 week so I'm hoping it's all resolved.

I've only owned the X for 3 months. After 4 days after ownership the Panoramic Sunroof failed, then a glow plug failed and various other issues occured which a dealer resolved under Warranty. Because I wasn't happy with the overall car, they took it back to give it a proper checkover.

Cheers pal.... BMW dealership is picking up the tab and sorting the car out so no cost to me.

If it was any other BMW I had owned I would have got rid of it, but I love the drive and look of the X5 so I think it's worth getting the issues resolved.

You have a turbo???

It sounds like when a turbo engages.....whistling type of sound.

If I'm not mistaken, he has the 3.0d diesel engine which has a turbo.

Hi mccalia1, I'm not so lucky as you.

The service advicer said they won't do anything with the fluttering exhaust noise, high pitch whistle noise, squeaky driver seat, rough idle, and the rear hutch struts. Programming memory would cost extra. They did read the bluetooth code for me. I have to go back another time for the broken cupholder prongs because they forgot to fix it.

As far as the steering wheel plastic chipping, they did replace it with a new one but made my steering wheel crooked. They claimed my front wheel is misaligned and wanted to charge me to fix it. I told the SA that the steering wheel was straight when I pulled into the dealership and it was crooked when I picked up the car the next day. But he insisted that replacing the plastic cover doesn't require removing the wheel (can someone confirm that?) So now I'm driving around with a nice clean but crooked steering wheel.

The dealer I used was the one I purchased the X from who are 50 miles away. I went to a dealer close to me and they weren't interested in helping me with the issues I had.

As for the chipping on the steering wheel cover, I had exactly the same issue...I requested that it be replaced as part of the purchase agreement however on collection I noticed the had attempted to spray it...leaving a rough finish. I complained and they replaced the cover but the steering wheel was no longer straight. I didn't notice this until I was on the motorway so I had to re-visit them on another day which was extremely annoying.

When I complained about the steering wheel being crooked, they said it required a KDS alignment however, he was talking toff because eventually I spoke to the technician who said all that's required is the steering wheel cover to be removed and moved a notch until it's straight. I'm sure theres more to it but that was the base of it.

I never heard of BMW adding additives to either the power steering or transmission fluids. Can you tell us what those additives were, and more specifically what is says on your service receipt. If they referenced a BMW SIB or TIB then that would show up on the receipt. I'd really like to read those. Thanks.
