Hi all! Just wonder what is the air pump for? I see no such pump in the emission control of facelift E53 V8 engine. Why is that? The part number for the air pump is 11721437910.
Last time I put my X in to dealer for routine check, they said the air pump was making very minor sound like 'whee whee...' in the first 3 minutes after cold start, I asked them if it needed to be replaced. They said it did not matter and that air pump actually did not have any practical function for the car. I feel very weird on that. If it has no practical function, why BMW has this design on the car? This air pump is pretty expensive if I want to replace it, it cost about US$900 at dealer. One more thing, why does BMW delete this thing on facelift E53 V8 car?
