It would undoubtedly clear him out, blowing more than smoke out of his tailpipe!

And these old systems can do some good if done properly. If you put it in your fuel tank it would clean your injectors and combustion chambers, but the "big cloud of smoke" method is usually just sucking it into your intake manifold too quick. When I did this in the past with other products at indy shops I worked at we had a pressurized can setup that would spray it into the throttle body as a mist while you ran it at a rasied idle. This cleans the throttle body, idle valve, intake manifold and combustion chambers. That way you don't suck too much as could happen if you just stick a vacuum hose into the bottle... That is what causes the big cloud of smoke, and you get better results by doing it the proper way anyhow.

I have used Techron fuel injector cleaner in my motorcycles and my cars at higher mileage, and I don't think I need anything more than that to clean injectors.

While huge amounts of deposits will harm the engine and probably rob you off of some performance, I don't think a well cared for engine at 40-60-80 or even 100k miles will need any type of cleaning to do its job at or near its peak level.

I wouldn't risk damaging sensors or other internal parts to 'clean' things up, when things are working at 95% or more. If it ain't broke...

Just my personal opinion.

E61Silver is an unknown quantity at this point
i have heard of using Seafoam in 2 cycle outboards but not cars.

Seafoam removes carbon which can be a real issue with outboards.

I can't help but think that all that black smoke/ carbon gunk is not going to help your senors & cat.

You got a deal! Right after you finish douching with it.

Pretty interesting. Anyone else do this to their X5? Bought our X5 CPO'ed and wondering if I should maybe give this a go to get the internals cleaned up. I have been noticing some hesitation once in awhile right when I start the truck up for a few seconds. Feels like it might stall then gets smooth. I only use 93 octane in our vehicles and I did poor in some redline fuel system cleaner about a month ago in the X5. I usually poor it in all my cars about once a year since we don't put many miles on them. Any suggestions? Should I give seafoaming a try? Would it be better to just poor it in the gas tank or suck it through the vacuum line or both? Any input is appreciated.

Bryan

Here is a good picture of where to do it. Just pull the line out, get another of the same size to put on the fitting and slowly pour it in (you may want to use a funnel).

Pouring it into that hose could put too much in too fast!!! Remember, fluids don't compress! I would NEVER pour a liquid into the intake system. The purpose of the designed systems for this treatment is to spray a mist into the intake system for better cleaning and engine safety.

I certainly don't want to hydrolock my engine, which is why I said to go slowly. There are probably thousands of examples of people doing this exact procedure on the net, so I felt pretty comfortable doing it.
