Dinan upgrades...

Hey guys, just bought the X5 4.4i few weeks ago, but being a mod freak I was checking on Dinan website to see what I could possibly do to enhance the truck. I see they have few upgrade, like the high flow trottle body with software upgrades, S/C upgrades etc but it kind of say it only up true the 03 model, is this correct or the 04 can be upgraded as well ?

only non-valvetronic motors can have a supercharger by Dinan, that would be all pre-04 models (the non-facelifted X5s)

Mike! How nice of you to say that.

On the Dinan website they organized the 4.4i stuff in some weird ways it is all posted there but I will help you out a bit.

Dinan software
Stage 1
X5 Series*::*X5 4.4i (E53) 2000-2006*::*Engine Tuning*::*Performance Engine Software (04-06)
Stage 2
X5 Series*::*X5 4.4i (E53) 2000-2006*::*Engine Tuning*::*Stage 2 Engine Software (04-06)
Stage 3
X5 Series*::*X5 4.4i (E53) 2000-2006*::*Engine Tuning*::*Stage 3 Engine Software (04-06)

Dinan CAI
X5 Series*::*X5 4.4i (E53) 2000-2006*::*Engine Tuning*::*Cold Air Intake (04-06)

Dinan Throttle Body
X5 Series*::*X5 4.4i (E53) 2000-2006*::*Engine Tuning*::*High Flow Throttle Body (04-06)

Dinan Exhaust
X5 Series*::*X5 4.4i (E53) 2000-2006*::*Engine Tuning*::*Free Flow Exhaust (04-06)

I have had 2 BMWs with Dinan products installed. The first was a 02 530i with a Signature 2 package, and now my X5 4.8is that has everything you can see in my signature.

I can't speak for having each modification individually, so just doing software, or CAI or the TB. If you are going to do one Dinan modification I would suggest doing the software upgrade. It transforms your X5 the most. You get better throttle response, better shift points, 100RPM increase in the rev-limiter and so the top speed governor is removed.

However, Dinan kind of screws you over in one way. If you want to stay with their recommendations you have to plan what performance mods you want to do. The Stage 1 software is typically ran on a stock X5, Stage 2 is typically ran with the CAI and Stage 3 with the CAI and TB. As far as I am aware of Dinan will not upgrade your software for free when you add a new modification.

With Dinan it all depends on if you are willing to spend the extra money. They specialize in BMWs and their R&D and quality of each product is top notch.

If you have any other questions let me know! Good luck with the modding!

Hi Jeff, thanks a lot for the links, it is much appreciate. As soon as my max is done you can see my build here: My n/a project - Page 16 - Maxima Forums

Once I'm done with it that will be the X5 treat. Thanks for the tips, I'll definitely go for the CAI, TB and Softwares at once. I'll keep you guy posted when it's done.

Best regards

AA
