i dont thing there is anything wrong with your brakes. you just did a brake job, i do several a day. if you didnt open any of the lines up, you should be good. start the car, pump it up, just to be sure make sure your e-brake works. take the car around the block, and bed-in the brakes. the brake firmness will come back within a mile of driving.

Hey, I just took it out for another 20 mile trip, so I've been around 40 miles now and everything is still the same. The pedal goes to the floor if I keep constant pressure on it for about 5-10 seconds, ie: at a red light. So, this has nothing to do with bedding in the brakes. I'm pretty sure when I pushed the caliper pistons in to allow room for the thicker, new, pads I blew the seals in the master cylinder since I did not have anything open to allow for the fluid to release.

Not an issue specific to a BMW. It is not uncommon for the seals in a master cylinder to fail after pushing the pads back in, if you had crud in the master cylinder that came in contact with the seals, or there was pitting in the bore (from water sitting there). The root cause isn't pushing the pads back in, it is not changing the brake fluid every two years. You may need seals in the master cylinder if that was the case, or you may need a rebuilt/new master cylinder. The shop should start by bleeding the brakes, with the BMW tool connected to cycle the ABS controller, and then see if the pedal is firm. If the pedal is still dropping under a steady pressure, then move on to the master cylinder. There are two sets of seals (multiple circuits) in the master cylinder. If one set has failed, then the brakes you are activating at the bottom of the pedal stroke are only on one circuit, so drive very cautiously until it is fixed.

It is conceivable that a failure in the ABS controller (similar to the master cylinder failure described above) could cause the same dropping pedal, but I am not familiar with how common that is on this model.

Brake pedal goes soft

My "check brake fluid" came on on my dash, dsc/abs light, brake light and soft brake pedal, all seem to happen at once.
I checked the fluid and it was a lil low so i filled i up, then a day or so later it all happened again and i noticed a damp spot on the driveway and i looked under the x5 and found a squirt of brake fluid every 2 or 3 secs when presure was applied to the brake pedal coming from under the rad expansion tank area. so not knowing what i was looking at i took it to my friends shop, he said the abs modular was leaking. Thats a 2k+ part

Does anyone have any experiance on this?

It is more likely a line connection at the DSC unit leaking vs the unit itself. I haven't ever come across that at the dealer before, but if by chance the unit had been replaced before then there is the human element in the connections and one might be a hair loose. I'd evaluate exactly where the leak is coming from and that will determine if it is a line problem or hydrolic unit problem.

And to the OP, it does sound like the master is bypassing the piston seal... A quick check to do if it bleeds down with light to moderate pressure while stopped (as yours is doing) would be to sharply apply pressure and hold it down hard, quickly jamming the brakes can jam that o-ring with the hydrolic pressure causing it to press itself tighter in the bore and holding hard pressure can help hold it there.

That trick doesn't always work, but most of the time if you apply sharply and strongly it will hold while soft pressure allows the bypassing to let if go to the floor.

Silly question, how full is your brake master cylinder reservoir? By pushing the pistons into the calipers you may have displaced brake fluid out of the reservoir.

Weasel the lines are fine, its the unit itself.
If you look down on the unit itself theres brake lines that conect into the top of the unit but at the of the left side theres a lil hole that looks like a vent hole or something and when i apply presure to the brakes the fluid squirts out of that lil hole.
My friend at the shop said that i need a new unit but i"ve been busy but i need to find one soon.
Yes gravy that was a silly question, i did say that i kept filling up the fluid level.

Hey, thanks for the concerns. Yes, I'm still kicking around. I had to get the brakes bled and all was well afterwards.
