Save my marraige please!!

I told myself that if a good 4.8is (Imola red with beige interior) ever appeared for sale within 15 miles of Chattanooga I would buy it (wife would not be happy). Well, never thought this dream would come to fruition as Chattanooga is a pretty small market for BMWs. Today a red 4.8is with beige interior and 41000 miles popped on one of my searches...6 miles from the house. I really love my 2001 4.4 sport, someone please tell me that the difference in the 2 vehicles is not worth risking marital strife.

The listing is very new so no price has been posted as of yet. The dealer is one that typically carries a large number of used BMWs at very reasonable prices. I'm afraid that the 4.8is is so mind blowing as to render itself irrisitable. Those of you that are 4.8is owners please chime in and give me the skinny.

Regards
Mad

oh this is an easy one. The 4.8 is totally worth it. the post facelift and updates alone make it so, but the engine will be even more worth it.

how do u get it? easy. play the safety card! the new xdrive in the 2004 and newer is way better than the old version. add in all the other features (I believe they came standard with nearly every option) and she will be asking you to buy it.

Just don't race around with her in it before you buy. if she is educated she will point out that aggressive drivers have a high correlation with abusive men, and aggressive driving is only defined by the individual woman...

take her to it, show her all the safety stuff (do your homework first), let along yours is old and less safe. go for it!

4.8 is so totally worth it !! esp red/beige very rare , unlike women which are everywhere !!

and believe me the 4.8 won't give you half the trouble that your wife does !!

I haven't tried the 4.4 but I can tell you the 4.8is is a lot of fun and feels very solid, and looks a hell of a lot better than standard 4.4's. A few fights and arguments is a small price to pay, eventually she'll get over it and may even love it (my wife loves to show it off). Play the safety card as Sprocket mentioned and don't put it in S mode while she's in the car so as not to give away your true intentions :P

I think I overstated the original thread title...getting the 4.8 won't end the marriage, not even close. Their would be some heartache that would hopefully pass.

I just came from the lot where it sat...very nice X. It appears to need rubber all around and rear brakes. Carfax said it was a company lease vehicle. I also did an auction check and found that the dealer paid $29,600 at auction for the vehicle (bought in west palm beach fl just 3 days ago). I imagine he will price it somewhere between 34-37K when he actually prices it. I'll take the VIN to my friends at the BMW store on Monday and see what's stored in the BMW maint. system.

I'll keep the thread updated
