Good to hear it's running strong. Remember timing chain guides soon.

Headlight malfunction

Hello,

I have had an issue where one of my headlight (xenon) doesn't come on at times and this seems to trigger the fog lights to turn un.... It used to only happen a few times here and there but it's now off more than it's off. I am thinking it's not the actual bulb but some sort of connector or something??? I have read on a thread that perhaps it's a ballast issue but I'd like the get some more opinions before buying the ballast.

Thanks

Here some production numbers of the E53 and especially the 4.8is (these also include cars produced for BMW internal uses, testing aso.):

@X5kindathing: do you have adaptive headlights? If these fail, they won't turn on but the fog lights will instead. But this will result in a fault code recorded. Maybe try to read your fault codes using BMW specific software.

I am having this problem also. Have to swap parts from the other headlight to verify it's the adaptive headlight module... but I'm pretty sure that's it.

Herculiner'd my running boards yesterday.

Not a fan of the aluminum look, so I rednecked them.

This is the finish on day-2. I'm hoping the gloss flattens out. A lot.

My "real" car is an E93 M3 in LeMans Blue. After thinking about what two small kids can do to that car I decided to buy a beater X5 to haul them to school in - last winter I found an '05 4.4i with 182k on the clock for a song. Turns out I absolutely love the thing. Unsurprisingly it needed a ton of work, so instead of sinking money on repairs for a car with no options I decided to move up.

I picked up my new-to-me 4.8is on Tuesday. Not quite a song, but it was pretty reasonable next to the M3.
