What do you use on the black trim?

Hey guys, the previous owner of my X waxed the car oftern however there is a ton of wax residue on the mat black trim around the truck. What do you guys use on this? Mothers back to black? Has anyone paint matched? Does it looke awkward?

TIA

I have used back to black trying to get the wax from the rubber parts but it doesn't always work. there is a product called CARBRITE degreaser that works wonders. It will also take out tar marks and various other things from your paint, I love it.

When Sobi came over and I did his angel eye installation, I also gave it a quick detail.

Degreaser or silicone tire spray is great at removing wax residue. Be it for the tires or the thin/thick areas of the black trim, I always use a 2" medium bristle brush and spray the silicone on the tip of the brush. This keeps down splattering from the tires, and using slow brushing techniques it keeps the silicone off the paint, around the wheel wells especially. Back to Black would work better then since the silicone has removed all the wax. Trust me, it works great and silicone is a lot less elbow work than doing the Back to Black stuff.

I have similar probs however mine is also with the door handles as my old girl is an 02 non sport.

For what it's worth, during the washing procedure I use warm to hot water with car shampoo on the areas in question, this seems to 'melt' any wax, polish etc to some degree and makes it easy to clean. I also finish with Mothers.

I'd love to give some Black Wow a try but through all my efforts it can't be bought in Aust. I can buy from Stateside if I want but bit of a hassle.

Black Wow and Mother's Back to Black both work great! A word of warning to those wishing to re-black the trim pieces... be wary of getting any on the metal pilars between your windows and on the rubber window trim. You'll destroy your arms trying to buff the nasty swirls out of those two areas. But for making your plastic trim look brand new again nothing beats those two products, IMO.

per previous post in this thread. I used silicone tire shine to remove wax on my black trims and it worked great.

I can't believe no one has mentioned this... my fav is Meguier's Trim Detail. It's a spray that is sooooo much easier to apply than Mother's Back To Black. It's sold at Pep Boys for about $6/can and it lasts several applications.

I've seen that stuff in the store as well... but the fact that I don't like the idea of overspray landing on my paint/wax keeps me away from products like that. Sure it may be faster and easier, but whats the goal here... speed or finger-busting-hand-applied-quality? Of course if you're going to spray a rag and wipe anyway... well, whatever floats your boat. I can't attest to the quality of restoration that the Meguier's stuff provides compared to products like Black Wow and Back to Black.
