Psh, you guys. My fuel filter was still going at 346,000 miles (no typo)

Now granted the fuel coming out of the return line when I removed it was like sludge, but the feed line to the engine would pour out clean fuel.
I was surprised too.
But now I get another mpg
And I think it's about a 100,000 replacement interval in my mind.
I will be doing this one again in about 20k in hopes that it could some of the sludge the old one was returning to the tank.

Where did you get your filter?

As long as that was from the dirty side, then that is exactly what it should do. It just shows the filter works.

It is when it comes out dark from the clean side that you should worry.

I don't disagree with the 100,000 mile target, but it is very arbitrary. Use dirty fuel, and you can require a filter after one tank. Use consistently clean fuel, and you can go 346,000 miles or more.

While we can target 100,000 miles just because that number is as good as any other, if an owner notices symptoms of fuel starvation then changing the filter is a cheap first step.

Yea, that was actually from all of the 3 connections. Cleaner on the OUT port. I was surprised too. Fuel out of the lines was clear.

I felt no difference in performance. starts on half crank though. That's the only difference since the replacement.

Hey there, X5girl! Please pardon the sidebar, and, where do I go to find a set of those "adjustible sway bars". Great post on the bushing refit, btw.
Thanks, SkidmarkX5
