aftermarket warranty

Has anyone purchased an extended warranty or maintenance insurance from an idependent source? If so were, how much, and what do you think of it? I am thinking of getting one for my 02 4.4 w/ 160,000 miles on the clock.

Thanks for the info

The policy I bought for my wifes car 2 years ago (M/B CLK 320 '04 at the time it had 11,000 mi, now 21,00) was through the AAA and was Mercury insurance.
Coverage is till 2014 or 80,000 miles I think it was about $2800.
Work could be done at M/B or independent shop, shop calls them ok's work and gets paid directly.

You will probably find that an aftermkt warranty, for a car with your mileage,
may be less easy to find, and pricey/exclusionary.

Many here, including yours truly, have had good luck with Warranty Direct,
but I suspect many legit companies will jack you up with that 160k miles...

I would rec'd at least asking WD, and other companies, and maybe go for
the best "drive train warranty" you can find that is reasonably priced, as
opposed to a bumper to bumper, (or nearly so), kind of coverage.

I don't recall many posters copping one with your mileage, but if you want
to do some reading and/or pick up some companies, simply put Extended Warranty
into the Search Tab at top of page; there are literally pages of ext warranty
threads.

I looked into one- then decided against it. But my local BMW dealer recommended Fidelity Warranty. They said they are good and the pricing seemed somewhat reasonable.

Fidelity is good, I have that on my S4. On the X5, I have Tech Serv and they are also good. They performed repairs with no hassle. Price and coverage depends on vehicle, year, and mileage so call around. However, as mentioned before, with your high mileage it may be cost prohibitive.
