If you can take your X out for a good run, rev it to redline and not feel like you're losing any power, then i'm willing to bet it's not a fuel pressure issue.

This issue however I have fixed on many cars, American, Japanese and German alike. Disconnect all tubing from your airbox to throttle body. Remove the throttle body and Idle Air Control valve. Clean both with Throttle Body cleaner until you see the silver aluminum and your handsome mug staring back at you. Before putting your IAC back in, lube (very very lightly) the connections with white lithium grease. This will ensure a tight seal.

Your idle air control valve is likely the culprit here. I'm willing to guess that Dinan CAI is simply just letting more air through (and dust) and accelerated the deposits in your IAC. Not to mention you're probably running it harder just to hear it roar, more fuel burn, more deposits.

It's a very easy procedure and for your first time will probably take you about 2-3 hours. You need torx bits (T25) and a typical DIY metric socket set. Lots of articles on how to remove it all. The most information to be found about this is surrounding the CCV/Oil Separator procedure as you have to remove all of this to get to it. PM me if you need help.

Not to mention it feels real good to do it and your accelerator pedal will have much smoother pedal travel.

I have this problem for 4 years now and I have tried everything , by myself(cleaning) by the dealer w their expertise and end up getting zero results. When engine cold or the shift in sport the idle rpm doesn drop bellow at stop (NO REAR END FELLING FROM TRANSM).I'm affraid that keep driving like this I will end up replacing the transfer case again. To have this problem fixed I replaced throttle body, trasm software update, all vaccum + hoses replaced, fuel filter, trasm filter=oil changed ....and still complaining.Maybe there are some sensors that send or doesnt send the right info to ECU and I dont know about it but the problem seems obvios and easy to fix .If you keep the car runing, warm engine ,shift in P and give a little gas up to 2-3000 rpm and then let come back to idle speed you will notice that idle goes under500rpm abruptly(not normal) and then comes back to 9-800rpm(normal).

I have got a new problem related to the rpm drop! When revving the x ( P or N) for the first time the rpm drop like the engine is about to stall then goes back to normal. If i revvs it again The problem disapears

It could be several things. Airflow meter, idle control valve, vacuum leaks, etc. First thing is did you check the codes with a BMW scan tool?

Mieux que jamais!

"Better late than never" oui? Supr4 there must be something in the X5 air as we both found this today... Faliciations d'EU, Wisconsin.

My 2003 3.0 X5 has been stalling on downshifts after warm. I think I have this lurch others describe. Havent found a thread on this, what's the solution? Tranny ECU Software? what? transmisison will downshift and die before I can get rolling again. Engine runs roughly at this time.

No codes detected other than misfire. Another forum thread detailed potential vacuum leaks in the plastic intake tube downstream from the MAF sensor. So, Lundi, Monday I will remove the airbox and flex this big tube up and inspect for cracks or leaking vacuum leads.

Other ideas?

By "stalling on downshifts" do you mean when you come to a stop? Or do you mean while the car is still moving?

Mine had some trouble recently with stalling when putting it in neutral. (Mine is a 5-speed manual so only when the car was not in gear at all.) No codes other than fuel trim codes which have been going on for a year or so. I couldn't find any vacuum leaks and had recently replaced the DISA with a GAS upgraded unit. I pulled the ICV and cleaned it but could not see any issue with it. This sounds like your problem Rcgreaves, just with a different transmission, do you think?

The airflow meter is next on my list if it happens again, but it hasn't happened since I cleaned the ICV a few weeks ago. However, I haven't been driving it a lot either.
