all season tires and wheel alignment in New mexico

The inside (shoulder) of driver side rear tire worn down and is already bald but passenger side is not so much bald, 1.5mm? thread is still there. And I learned from this forum it is due to the negative camber. so I am considering Michelin latitude Tour Hp for my next. so I have a few questions.

1. Can I keep the old diamaris for a while, say for this summer? I mean if I keep driving under 70mph, Is it safe? maybe stupid question but other tires especially front tires are very ok but I am thinking changing all together is better in this winter with all season tires.

2. I found that latitude tour HP (all season) has specs of revolutions per mile says
front 255/50 19 --> 720 and rear 285/45 19 -->711. this spec is pretty much different from the original diamaris. (2004 X5 4.4i sport pack so x drive). so is it OK to install this tires?
any recomendation for the most durable all season tires?

3. Any recommend for alignment shop in new mexico area, alberquerque? or should I go to dealership? I really do not want to waste money for tires any more. the dealer is asking $280 for just alignment. I think it is too expensive.

Thank you and have a good day.

alignment should not cost you more than 60-80 dollars. 280$ is over charge unless you need more than just a simple wheel alignment. i got an alignment 2 weeks ago when i purchased the car just to be sure and it cost me 65$. ofcourse did not go to bmw.

I heard that it is necessary to put some weight on seats and cargo area for correct alignment. Is it definately necessary? I looks like only dealership does that.

SM said after x drive model (2004 I think) they should take care of steering sensor during the alignment hooking up to their bmw maintenece computer so only dealership can handle the alignment properly. and $80 shop said they will not put weight on seats and cargo area. but the SM said it is necessary to put some 130lb on the drive seat and some weight on cargo as well for accurate alignment. so I am considering to pay 220. sorry for confusion SA said they charge 280 and SM 220. so 220 should be. expensive but much better than bad alignment, you know tire is much more expensive.

Hey Wigner, I am currently working with an Indie shop in Albuquerque who is extremely knowledgable about German cars. I saw your post this aftenroon so I asked him who he would reccomend for tire mounting, balancing, and alignment on a BMW. Without hesitation he said Chets Wheel Alignment at 505.299.4221. Speak to Tim and tell them that you were referred to them by Andreas at Hans Witter Automotive. These guys have been in business a very long time and are quite good. Best of luck.

You should get in on the group buy for the Vredesteins and forget about the Latitudes. Also read my post # 119 here in answer to your other questions:

Yes they are summer tires. Most people will tell you there are no true high performance all season tires and that most "all season tires" are in reality 3 season tires. None of the OE BMW spec'd tires were all season for the E53 X5 and come winter you really should get a set of dedicated winter tires. Having said that you live in Southern California where it is effectively 1 season all year round with only rain to worry about. These tires are excellent in the rain and would be perfect for you. Just my 2 cents.

I checked your thread. the tires seems to be one of the best high performance tires. especially if I am still living in Socal. but right now I am in new mexico and need to stay here in winter season. Next jan I will move to Socal again. but last winter was horrible to me. Now I have very good understand that summer tire does not fit at all. that is the reason I am pursuing all season tires. at least the lattitude seems to have some good review for light snow traction at least. so that is the reason I am looking for good all season tires. since I have to go back evetually to sunny place. so no summer no snow. and eventually will get rid of this x5 and jump to hybrid SAV. so this set of tires will be the last for this x5. hope all season works for me. and thank you for your honest comments. it is really helpful and the same as bmw service manager's
