Front Disc Rotors

hi

just wondering if the 3.0i / 4.4i front rotors are the same as the 3.0d (E53 2005)

i have a warped rotor (s) and the spare parts store i go to has a listing for the petrol engine cars but not the diesel.

also how hard are they to change???

i guess just remove the caliper, swing it out of the way, and remove a retaining screw (or two) and they fall off, have i missed anything??

i thought i would get some cross drilled rotors??

any thoughts

Ewen

they DONT just fall off (like the BMW manual says), they will be stuck and you will have to pound them off-well at least thats how I got mine off

i checked in the how to,s and found a good write up, only question now is are the rotors the same across the 3.0i, 4.4i and 3.0d e53 cars, apparently there is a separate listing for the 4.6i, and are cross drilled rotors any value, i know slotted are not as all they do is wear your pads out earlier,

No. If you are not going with a big brake kit, cross drilled replacement rotors are just for show. Replacing a stock, plain rotor with one the same size that is drilled is a waste of time. All drilling does in this case is take away some of the metal that dissipates heat, which means it is a downgrade, not an upgrde. Plus, they have been known to crack around the holes.

The information I have says that the 2005 E53 3.0d has the same brake rotors as 3.0i.

If it were my X I'd bite the bullet and buy OEM.

Front Brake Rotor Replacement!

You right! it's even impossible to fall off, however I did mine today and they were kind of weld to the metal 2gether, and you have to hit them hard with harmer to come out. When I drive at 30 to up and I apply brake, my steering wheel used to shake side to side so bad. But after replacing the two front rotors
The shaking steering wheel while brake applied is all gone!!! I have a smoother stopping reaction when braking now.
