I've researched this over and over, none of the aftermarket units will work if you have DSP, what I mean by that is that it is not plug and play. I think the problem is the DSP amp itself, do a search there's an in depth thread about how to bypass the DSP, but it ain't easy.

Sorry, but the Dynavin will not work with DSP, I think it says that on their website. I contacted them about a month ago via email and they told me it will not work. I think you can get it to work but you can't use it with the DSP amp, there's a thread about how to bypass the DSP amp but it ain't easy.

Hi All,
New to this forum. I'm trying to help a friend install the Hualingan in his x5. He has the oem nav with DSP. I have read all 34 pages. I was wondering if a dsp converter could be used instead of moving the factory radio to the trunk. There are a number of them out there for aux, usb and ipods. Here is an install video of one of them; DICE BMW iPod Kit DSP Adapter Install: E39 5 Series, E53 X5 - YouTube
Thank you
Bill

The second link is for bypassing the stock dsp amp and wiring your own amp which this thread isn't about. The first thread is still using the stock dsp amp however has low audio levels

Just finished reading this - in two hours!
I just bought this to my E53 2002 with Navi screen no DSP.
I'll let you know if it's a plug & play or not.
By the way, is this Hualingan 4th gen?

Although I was a big fan of Hualingan when it first came out with good support from the local re-seller I would consider reading this before buying.
Hualingan in car touch screen DVD

Dynavin came out with an ugly design with 6.2" screen but they have a few versions now with 7" screen. Both are Chinese companies but Dynavin seems to honor the one year warranty in case you have problems.

Angry Hualingan installation problems

I just bought a Hualingan 4th gen for my X5 E53 2005 with 40 pin connectors (no DSP). Obviously I had to stretch a 6 meter cable harness from the trunk to the HU.
Before I installed it i read a couple of the guides in this forum. Directly upon installation, still being in the garage, it seemed like I had been successful. There was sound from from the various sources (Radio,DVD, iPod, iPhone via bluetooth, SD, USB), I could play video from DVD and the iGo8 GPS system functioned.

Then the problems started. Sound from from all sources comes and goes. Mostly goes. The user interface freezes and hangs. No more video or pictures, and the bluetooth Iphone connection does not work.

All the connections have been checked and rechecked to the best of my skills.

Conclusion: I have found that when the engine is off and I operate the unit everything works fine, but as soon as I start the engine the system malfunctions, i.e all sound vanishes, I can´t play videos and bluetooth malfunctions etc.

I have to admit that my electrical skills are far less than average. Still it strikes me as strange that it all works while the engine is off, but as soon as I start up everything stops.

The HU was bought from cars-electronics.com in China. I´ve emailed them about the problem and the have asked me to take pictures and video to help assess the situation and the connections.

I have not attempted to connect the "illumination" wire anywhere and as such I do not have illuminated buttons. To be honest I have no idea where to connect it.

In addition I have also not attempted to connect the HU to the reverse camera (original) for the same reason.

I would deeply appreciate it if anyone in here could be of assistance. The whole thing has become really frustrating, and I am seriously considering putting back the original HU and keep burning CDs.

Hello pal, look, as long as your HU functions well (sometimes), then there should be no wrong with it.
I doubt there's a problem of connections. I remember that the illumination wire has some relation with the POP sound I used to hear when I click on ipod icon before some electrician fixed it for me.
If I were you I'd go to a really-experienced electrician and have him checked all the connections.
Let me know when happen.
