Kinda disappointed in the X today

Last night the X wouldn't crank so had to get AAA to jump start. Would have them do a battery test, etc but was in a hurry and was cold as crap.

Let my wife borrow my exploder and I tried using the X this morning - no go. Got a jump and took it to get the battery tested - bad battery.

Now its snowing here, I'll need a jump again to get my battery which is on order and will arrive 1:30 PM today. Then I'll need to replace the dang thing in this weather.

The part I'm disappointed in is with all the idiot lights and warnings the X has - I didn't get any warning. No red battery light, no message on the dash - nothing.

I knew something funky was going on as recently every now and then I'd get the self level susp. inactive message. I figured I'd have the shop check it out the next time I have it in but I guess it couldn't wait.

Just a little frustrated today.

I just replaced mine. Took the preventative measure so I wouldn't end up in your situation. Mine was the original 6 years old. The parts guy said 5 years they usually replace them. I was getting intermediate missdire on startup. If I left the ignition on for 10 min it was dead.

Same battery since new? If yes, you were on borrowed time.

Haven't checked yet but maybe. I bought it used so I should have checked a long time ago.

Regardless, my point is the X should have given me some warning right? Or am I assuming wrong?

Okay, just checked the manual. I interpreted what it says as the battery light will only display if there's a problem with the charging system - like a bad alternator.

If this is true then I assumed wrong. Did I interpret the manual correctly?

You interpreted it correctly. In some situations not charging can be caused by the battery, and in those cases the 'battery' light, which is really a charging light, will point you in the right direction. Usually, though, the light signifies an alternator problem, and then the 'battery' light is the answer to the question "what is going to go flat now?"

Thanks for confirming that for me. Now, I'm more disappointed in ME than the X.

I should have checked the battery date when I bought it. I also should have had the X checked right away instead of waiting. In my mind I thought it was the battery all along causing some errors but didn't think it was urgent. Lesson learned.

It's a good lesson, and fortunately you had another vehicle to use. Maybe other members with 6 year old batteries (AKA running on borrowed time) will use the opportunity to buy a battery under planned circumstances, and not take the chance of getting stranded. It is usually cheaper, and almost always more convenient.

The battery just failed in my Corvette after 3.5 years. So you did well. Cold weather is very hard on them. I had just been up in the mountains where it was rather cold. And then with no warning after eating lunch I come out and nothing - no crank. Luckily I was in the parking lot of my neighborhood auto parts store, so I was back up and running in about 30 min!! Only warning it gave me was a bit hard cranking, but it was subtle. Now that I have a fresh batt the cranking goes much quicker and I realize that the batt had been getting weak. But no other warnings. BTDT countless times - batteries just fail w/o much warning....

I'm in need of a new battery being that mine is 8 years old. I guess I've been lucky that I have not gotten stranded somewhere, but before it bites in me in the a$$ I'd rather handle that now.

What batteries do you guys recommend other than OEM?

Thank you in advance.
