I have always been a premier member, I have a vested interest in the betterment of the forum. I am also concerned about the future of the forum, that's the reason for the input.

I usually send a private message about posting ads since most are new members and I don't think it should be 'public'. When you Let folks know about selling things it is trying to help make the forum better. Good for you! I respect that. My intent is the same and I expect like respect.

It is very easy to unsubscribe. It is also just as easy to use the thread as intended. How does anyone think trying to solve problems and troubleshooting is not off topic in this thread? Why is it any different than hy jacking a thread, using bad language, verbally attacking a member etc.? The way to improve the forum is to follow all the rules not selectively.
With all due respect, you referenced yourself no less than 8 times and referenced any other members once. I think the main complaint from everyone posting on this issue is exactly that, it is a forum made up of many members with the same passion for the E53, not just one.

Sure, some conversation like complimenting what someone has done, where they purchased the parts, asking for the results is great.

The way to improve the forum is to follow all the rules not selectively.

FYI- Prefacing a comment with all due respect is almost always an indication of lack of respect endorsed by the comment that follows.

I mentioned myself because it is my opinion and may or may not be that of others. My input is not about the forum should be. It is an opinion of how this thread should be used based on the title and how it has primarily been used in the past and the rules of this forum.

Yes it is a forum, and there are rules. If ya'll want a catch all thread why don't you start one that is intended just for that rather than compromise this one or better yet go to the lounge thread and have at it? A catch all thread doesn't sound like a good idea but why not try that and see what happens?

I mentioned myself because it is my opinion and may or may not be that of others. My input is not about the forum should be. This is an example of simple rules of successful forums that have stood the test of time. https://www.wikihow.com/Sample/Forum-Rules.

Read into it however you like. Most of us really don't care.

I didn't read it any way. Just a comment on the way with all due respect is most commonly used.

You could be correct but you only know about the few that have posted, not the majority of forum members and you can't assume you represent their opinions. But, assuming most don't care then what is the resistance to staying on the topic of this thread? Isn't that what someone passionate about the success of the forum would do? No comment on the sample rules or any of my questions?

I read nothing but illogical resistance, most likely just standing on ceremony. Nothing that is a good reason to continue misusing this thread, nothing that is a good reason to ignore forum rules regarding this thread. If you don't like my posts then complain to Admin that you want me thrown off because I want to follow the rules.

you're overthinking the concept of this thread and even though I'm not a regular poster by any means you sound like a complete idiot right now, this isn't a law firm bud, people are here to learn and give feedback on regards to their E53 updates so if we are already on the topic of what a user did to his/her car why not ask a technical question to broaden everyones knowledge base...now if you made people pay to post on this forum that's a different story but it's OPEN TO EVERYONE

You always feel that way from what I've seen. Any point of view contrary to yours is dismissed as illogical or uniformed. Your posts, even many of the helpful ones have an air of condescension to them. I don't usually say anything, but in regards to this specific thread, no one else complains about how it is used.

We are all here for the same reason. We enjoy these trucks, appreciate the advice of fellow members, and have a good time discussing with each other. As with any group, disagreements will happen. Take criticism or opinions for what they are. I have done things to my x5 some thought makes it less attractive. I take no offense and am happy to hear their thoughts. I don't ask that my friends always agree with me, so I certainly wouldn't expect it of a forum community.

So you don't think rules are necessary or if there are rules they shouldn't be followed?
This has nothing to do with what the forum is intended. It is only about the intended use of this particular thread. I don't know about anyone else but I pay to be a premier member based on the quality of the forum. Do you think a post about what to do about a rough idle and then the ensuing troubleshooting is appropriate in this thread?

I agree, and have posted, that questions, compliments and some comments are great in response of what someone has done to their X5.

FYI--insults are also against the rules and even if they weren't they only reflect negatively on the one using them. There is no reason to lash out or be defensive. You can always unsubscribe or stop posting and then I will have nothing to respond to.

You take my above comment as an insult? It's an observation.

Forum rules are great and I think they get adhered to on this forum at a much higher level than most. This thread moves along fine enough for every member here but one. And that one seems unwilling to accept that his peers are okay with how it is progressing and wants to impose his point of view on the rest of the group.

I was responding to Serb 404. Should have tied it to his post.

I'm sorry that you view me that way. I do challenge logic and points of view but never dismiss a post for any reason. I assure you the last thing I would want to be is viewed as condescending.

I have absolutely no problem with criticism delivered in a respectful fashion and I agree entirely with your second paragraph. In addition, I have never said anyone is wrong that doesn't share my opinion. If you read through the posts you will see that I am not the only one that feels this way.

This is for directed to you---Singling me out as the problem when you have responded to me more than anyone else defending your opinion is amusing. And I would never think I was qualified to post how you feel or what your intentions are. You can stand on it being an observation. Is that what a wife or mother or father would think it was? I feel sure how you have to answer that question and also feel sure they would not.
