Got the Febi door handle carrier and had a friend's shop put it on as I really didnt feel like doing it myself but I wanted it done asap.

They got it on and its working well, but the gap between the handle and door lock pad is bigger than before and I will be bringing it back to the shop.

Interestingly the one I removed was a Febi also but marked "Germany", which is conspicuously missing from the new one.

Old carrier had not broken at the hinge, but is binding as it pivots. Without a new one on hand to compare it to, I cant see what exactly is wrong with it at this time.

It's a really stupid design that puts a ludicrous amount of force through a real dumb gear with no lubrication. In addition the cable is high risk for rusting it might just need lubrication.

No rust in sight, but the grease is just a dried crust at this point.

I will try to lube it up and see what happens.

And yeah, that V10 E53 is a nice homage to the X5 LeMans. Hope they lap it and compare the times with the original!

I'm pretty sure your financial advisor is about to lose their mind.

Replaced the boost pipe seals on the EGR/Intake - the old seals has become like plastic and were not really seals any more - more like spacers.

Cleaned the MAP sensor while I was in there with all the Tupperware off the engine - the MAP sensor is on the very back of the intake manifold and tricky to reach.

And, since the EGR was off, giving better access to the HPFP fuel inlet line, I replaced the fuel line hose clamp (with a proper fuel hose clamp - not a worm-gear version as BMW use) and cleaned up the fuel line end (cut off 1cm!).

Running well...
