I would think recoding the gauge to read "real" would be as valuable as tinkering with the cap vent pressure point to me.

I recoded all of my bmw's to read actual temp on the gauge so I know if things are going south before any issues.

I even installed a digital temperature gauge on my E70 since it doesn't even have a gauge at all from the factory.

Oh wow, I had no idea, I assumed it was totally tongue in cheek. Is it any different/better than the green stuff we use here?

I'm going to try out "Unlock OBC post 5"..

How do you recode the gauge?
Let me guess.. It is some very complicated INPA stuff that I will never get to work on my computer..

Need one of these and but for a single electronic press/temp sensor and with lower scales on the gauge for coolant press/temp..

I might also look for that coolant level sensor and unplug it to see what it does, see if I get a warning because I do have a low option 3.0..

Actually its super simple to do but does require pa soft and the cable to do it.

This covers how to do it.

Finally had a chance to install my AVIN-4 Android Stereo.

Pretty straight forward install, basically plug and play. All the wiring is premade by AVIN for iBUS and rear view camera so no relay or tapping into anything was required. I just had to extend the wires for the iBus to the front so I could connect the USB interface behind the dash.

Hardest and longest part was fishing the extension harness through the rear side cover. I didn't want to remove any of the panels because 1 I'm lazy and 2 didn't prepare any plastic rivets to redo them.

But just removing 3 push clips I was able to pull it back enough to fish it through.

I tucked the harness under the carpet along the passenger side, under the door sill covers, then drop the glove box and then rest is pretty clean and simple.

Once "unlocked" or activated the iBUS had sound right away with DSP.

And finally, I have angel eyes as DRL!!!

So it seems like the iBUS app doesn't "code" the car but once the app runs it's able to turn them on via the canbus.

The DRL settings aren't under the "coding" submenu but under "settings" submenu.

Along with auto mirror fold and one touch turn signals that I set to 5 blinks

The best way to prevent an overheating condition is scanning the gauges when driving and a regular interval of checking coolant level and cooling system components. And if the coolant is ever low fix the problem ASAP rather just refilling the coolant.

+1. You get three top off or one week with coolant ; if you didn't grab find and fix the problem it's entirely your fault when you get stranded.

Fixed my XDrive transfer case actuator with a new gear.

Flipped gear can deff be used 3 times. One should not flip it 180 degrees when it fails first time, but flip it 120 deg so that it can be flipped again for free. So much less work to flip the gear than to swap it out.

And the 2 bar cap falls into the same category for me as the following. Just like the door handle carriers, lock actuators, regulators, air susp, valve stems, alternator housing bracket, crossover pipe, valley pan, m62 guides, lifetime transmission oil. Literally every single one of these cars, if the car has this part, it will fail. The 2 bar cap will allow all your cooling components to fail and never get a chance to do shit that it’s supposed to.

got to this stage . not that much of a PITA. didn't know there was and extra 2 bolts to remove on the bottom cos the upper sump was still on ,
job to tackle next it remove the PS pump fully , remove the 2 hoses, which could be tricky seeing as the pump isn't connected to the car.
the vanos are being sent off for rebuild,
got to remove the upper chain tensioners, , ther proving to be a challenge too,
is there anything else I can tackle whilst it is at this stage??.

Found the real injector cleaner (finally) of course it only treats 65L a can and only 10 USD isn't too bad for quality...
