Absolutely. I bought my X5 because I wanted a car that would be comfortable on my commute, be able to tow a boat or trailer here and there, and be fun to drive. I bought a manual with the 3.0 specifically because I felt more comfortable with that powertrains reliability and it really fit my MO better. I don't necessarily believe (and don't think you should) all of the hype on the internet. People come here with their problems not because they are content. My X5 (knock on wood) has been very reliable. The way I look at it this vehicle was probably around $60k 12 years and 64k miles before I bought it for 11k. It still drives and provides the creature comforts that it did when it was new (obviously some things degrade). If these vehicles were known for reliability and being cheap to maintain they would have a way higher value in the used market. It is a simple scenario of you can't have your cake and eat it to. You either pay for it now or later. Have your pick.

Seeing I have 2 open recalls on the '05 Honda Accord, trans secondary shaft bearing failure and both front airbags can shoot metal fragments at front passengers (can be fatal!!!), I would replace the Honda with a 2nd E53 in a heartbeat.

Blasphemy! Everyone knows a Honda that costs 1/3 a BMW and is the pinnacle of automotive reliability! Just ask all those Honda MiniVan owners with failing transmissions, A/Cs, and electronics!

I really enjoy doing repairs twice on the Honda, when dealer sourced electronic parts are no good.

Wow. Helluva thread bump.

Interesting to note that I'd just bought my 2nd E53 when this thread started. Since then, I have sold another and bought another. Now running two of those dreaded N62's. Couldn't be happier!
