Tomaz, thanks for you email. I did cinched up all the beads on the outer 2 connectors, however, the inner non-adjustable cable of the Z579 still had too much slacks.

When I first went to pick up my chains at NAPA Autoparts they gave me the Z579's I asked them for the Z575 insated and they reordered one for me. They were confused themselves as why the first time I was given Z579's . They looked in the application guide and it turns out that an older app guide called out for the z579 and the newer called out for a z575. I haven't had the opportunity to try the Z575 so I am not sure if they work yet. I am running stock 19" Diamaris.

For those who couldn't get the chains to fit, what tires are you running?
Please do keep us updated once you get your Z575. I tried those Z575 on the OEM Bridgestones without any success of getting them on. However, I'll be swapping those Bridgestones out for a set of either Pirellis or Toyos All-Seasons soon (sometimes next year). I might give the Z575 another try after I put on the new tires...So I'm an curious to see how your Z575 will fit.

As I understand, SCC had changed their design of the Z-chain. They went from a 3-outer connector design down to a 2-connector design. I think that is also the time that they might have switched their application guide from a Z579 down to the Z575.

After going through all this trouble of trial fitting tire chains and talking to their rep, I found that SCC may not actually have tried their chains on all tires in their app guide. It's all based on a formula that they created along with their customer's feedback. So, now I can understand why they are jumping between the 2 sizes for the same tire. What's weird is that we have 3 people here on this board claiming 3 different results (1) Z575 fits, (2) Z579 fits, (3) neither fit.

Wow!!! $400 bucks for tire chains? I'm not sure if I can afford to get those, especially when there's only like 2% of the time that I will actually need to use them. But it's definitely worth the consideration if it's 1/2 price.

Came back from quite a trip up in Tahoe. Went through it all, sunny, snow, rain. And had a chance to try out my Z575's. From my particular expericne they DO fit

I run stock 19" Diamaris and had no problem, just had to move the car back and forth a few times to get all the chains tightened. When we got from the ski resort to cabin (about 10 miles) I had a slow leak coming out of my left rear valve stem, I doubt that the chains directly caused this, but the valve stem was probably on it's way out already and the NVH from the chains probably aggravated it.

At the end of the day, Yes these Z575's work and offer quite a bit of piece of mind, eventhough the CHP would have probably allowed me to continue driving without them on, but I put them on to not take any chances.

Jared, good to see that the SCC Z575 worked well for you. It looked like you had a great time. Do you mind sharing some tips regarding how you got those things on? It would be greatly appreciated. As indicated in my previous posts, the Z575 were a really tight fit on my Bridgestones as I can't get the last connector to latch even one single bead. How many beads were you able to latched on each of the outer connector?

dkl,

Yea I was glad everything worked out fabulously with the SCC Z575 chains. I didn't loose traction or have anything exciting to report. Putting these guys on wasn't too difficult either. I started out by laying the chains behind the car backed over, pulled it over and up from behind the backside of the tire and just evenly latched the connectors, bead by bead per connector rather than completely tightening one connector and moving on to the other. Not sure if this was any help, but hope it was.

Besides attachment technique, I think different tire manufacturer's actually differ slightly in overall dimensions as well...possibly leading to a slightly overall larger tire surface area that the chains have to go around. I was very conscientious of such tire dimensions when I owned my M3 taht was on coilovers and was very concerened with every bit of space I could get in the wheel wells. TireRack has a spec chart of actual shoulder, contact patch, sidewall dimensions.

Has anyone tried the Super Z6 chains (also made by SCC-Chains) for 285/45-19? Model# SZ 435. I like the installation method better and it supposedly requires even less clearance.

snow chains for 19' wheels

You can try spike spiders. http://www.spikes-spiders.com
I have fitted them on my X5 with 19 inch wheels and work perfectly
and fit in about 10 seconds per wheel. (rear wheels fitted ofcourse)

Super Z6 requires less clearance, however are very likely to scratch wheels taht protrude beyond the sidewall.
