What year and engine size? You could have oil leaking from your valve cover gasket(s) or oil housing gasket.

Hi Wigner,

I had a vacuum pump oil leak repaired recently. My Dealer diagnosed it sometime before the repairs but informed me it was non critical at the time. Unfortunately oil leaked onto the air compressor belt which eventually snapped thus increasing the bill. IMO get all leaks fixed immediately!

On the dollars side of things your repair bill seems rather obese. Get another quote if you don't diy as I was charged $350 AUD for the pump & install (reconditioning not new part) and unfortunately the belt put the bill up close to $500. So repair that sucker! and I also have an 04 V8

Hi Julezw

thank you for your comment! Did you have a cracked vacuum pump or
damaged O ring? I checked the pump area with mirror, but I could not see any oil dripping, just the pump body is messed and covered up with oil + dust.

Vacuum pump for brake booster is part 11 66 7 545 384 and the part should be 400 or less. Idea is that oil from a leaking pump could contaminate the braking system and result in loss of braking or worse. Dealer work for part and labor shouldn't be more than $600 (or at least that is the going rate locally).
