![]() However, the AC guy advised me that there might be a leak in the o-rings or tubes and therefore I should come back for a leaktest if the temperature goes up again. A leaktest consists of charging the AC system with a higher pressure so that the leak will surface. It will logically take a longer time I bought the FSR anyway for US$64.00 and plan to DIY the installation this weekend. It won't hurt to replace it, I just want to make sure. Will keep you guys posted. Thanks again! |

i would consult a certified a/c tech for future repairs. overcharging is never a good idea, and will lead to decreased cooling performance. all recharges should be at the spec. 0.9x lbs on most x5's. the system is constantly under pressure, so if there was a leak, it would be apparent. if this is the first recharge after 5-6years, then it is completely normal. 30grams of r134a a year is considered normal. |

Fullmetaljacket,
I have the same problem that you mentioned in this thread. I had a recharge of freon to my aircon a month a go hoping this would solve the problem. However, problem came back just a few days ago. My X is in the shop right now undergoing a leak test and it looks like i am headed in the direction of replacing my evaporator . Will keep you updated on final solution.....

Just got word from my indie shop that I need to replace the evaporator. Of course other parts such as dryer,o-rings,expansion valve would also need to be replaced. Major work will be to take down the whole dashboard of the X. Total cost labor and parts is around USD800 +++.............

Wow!!!
Where is this shop? Are you sure they know how to do this? Just concerned about the dis-assembly / assembly of your dash dude.Come to think of it, I was lucky considering I recharged the refrigerant 2 months ago (looking at when I posted post #11 - 11/15/2011). 2 months have passed and my AC's still blowing cool air. I hope I'm safe. Oh by the way, I replaced my FSR myself (did a DIY) and I noticed 2 major changes: 1 - my AUX fan is now blowing more often than before. 2 - my AC AUTO function now works. I didn't really use the AC's AUTO function before because I thought that it always blew not so cold air. Now I set the temp to 21.5 and let it rip. Let us know how your evaporator change turns out. Good luck! PS: OT I thought you were selling the X..? |

I had the same symptoms being cold from the left vents and gradually warmer moving to the right vents. I had the system checked out at my local indy and it turned out to be the evaporator. They replaced the o-rings and expansion valve at the same time too just to be on the safe side. The evaporator/parts were not too expensive but labor is the big cost in this job. Most of the dash has to be removed to get to the darn thing. After it was removed they showed me where it had been slowly leaking gas from.
So a recharge may be a temporary fix for a leaking system but it is probably best to have properly diagnosed. |
