83k mi on my wife's 2001 X5 3.0,bought it at 78k mi in Nov 2010. I'll do some preventative maintainances like VCG, spark plugs, Vanos seals, clean ICV and throttle body, cooling system overhaul.
The car calls for 91 or higher, so that's what it get. I dont want to save a few bucks for any potential risk.

I have 312,000+ and replaced the original transmission around 308,--- I now have my eyes set on 400,000 should take me another 2-3 years.

Thanks everyone for all your stories. Looks like mine is the highest mileage with the exception of wally. That's amazing. Are you the first owner?? Hope u hit 400 as planned!

I just did the water pump, belts, thermostat , hoses, cv boots, and battery at 107k. As for yhe trans fluid, I have mixed feelingsas well. My mechanic keeps pushing me to do it however says there is a small risk of trans going bad but claims the risk of not changing is far greater. I'm starting to get more concerned that it might go bad too. @x5v8rules, were there any symptoms prior to flushing the fluid or was it a good transmission?

As for the gas, I know I made a mistake with 87 but as far as mpg, this seems to be burning better than the 91.

Btw, how much did u guys spend on a new trans? I hear it's about 4k.

Are there any symptoms to a failing torque converter or did the car just stop suddenly?

I am getting ready to change the front struts and the front suspension bushings. Still not clear to me is when I will tackle the chain guides and valve cover gaskets.

The engine is running better than ever at this point!

Good luck with your 03!

2001 X5 3.0i with 205,000 miles. Biggest expenses have been the oil separator and having to replace the engine wiring harness (blame that on the neighborhood squirrels, not BMW - seriously).

I still have the original tranny fluid. Never have had any problems there.

I seem to recall the good Doc/Chairman, aka KewlX5, has a bunch of miles on his X, and there may be others up in the high 100k range, from fading memory.

I've run 87 often, esp on long highway day trips where the tank gets consumed in a day; my mpg hwy doesn't vary much, but other than feel good mental health, I have never noticed any improvement with the occasional tank of 91/93, fwiw.

Our '01 3.0 has 82,000 miles, and the list of post warranty non-maintenance repairs can be counted on one hand.

Orig window regs, too...knock on freakin wood.

PS: if you hit Search Tab, you may find a partial page worth of "what's your X's mileage" threads.

240000 going for 3

06 4.4 I do about 50 to 60k miles a year now. I do my own normal routine maintenance. My schedule for service is generally half of what BMW recommends, except for stuff like blades and brake fluid. I have done door handle carriers, rear brake lights, but no regulators. Tension arm bushings and sway end links.

I have changed the trans fluid 3 times, and filter once. There was very little silt in the pan. I relplaced the battery once.

I caved on the alternator and had dealer replace it.

Good luck with yours. I am shooting for 400k miles.

Hit 120K today on our 2004 3.0. Purchased last year at 100K here in Germany, but US spec. No issues, only new tires coming up this weekend and I think a new passenger lock regulator is in my near future (only unlocks about every other time). Replacing tires this weekend, hopefully will take care of the crazy road noise we are getting when slightly turning left or right at speed. If not, will investigate front suspension wear/alignment. Great vehicle so far!

PS- Going on original "Lifetime?" transmission fluid as far as I know. Thought about changing it, but seems like I hear more "my transmission failed ______ days after I changed it" than I have heard otherwise. Think I will let it ride.

Extremely confusing way of measuring, but our 98 in Europe would at least be a 93-94 octane "Premium" in the states-
