For instance, timing chain guides tend to fail on these and I've replaced them. etc. Just look for one that has had the big ticket items done. The engines are great aside from the chain guides and the cooling systems are weak. I have friends that have 300k on the 4.4 with no issues yet, just regular maintenance. So don't be consumed with the odometer. I guess I'll find out how the market responds to mine soon.
Planning on another X5?

Also, are you an ECU alum? I've got family in Greenville, know the area well.

I picked mine up about 60k and it just turned over 200k in mileage. Overall it has been a very reliable vehicle for the last 7 1/2 years. I've changed the following items under a 100k warranty; valve cover & oil pan gaskets, throttle body and map sensor, water pump, crank sensor and oil separator, trans fluid.

After the warranty was up I've had to replace water cooled alternator, cv boots, battery, radiator and coolant tank (twice) and 3 window regulators, oil separator
Like someone earlier was saying there is controversy about changing that fluid but I asked the indy shop owner and he says that although it is lifetime it is a fluid nonetheless and will eventually break down. I changed mine and haven't had any issues.
