Arrow What is the mileage of your X5?

Can you guys share how many miles are on the clock of your X and what, if any major repairs you've done. I have an 03 4.4 with 115k and want to get a feel of what to expect. I love the car and have no near plans of selling it. I'm also considering doing the dreaded transmission fluid change since its still riding on the original fluid. Also, as a test, I filled up with regular 87 gas instead of the usual 91 premium. Is this bad for the car? I'm regretting I did it. After 200 miles, I noticed black carbon deposit on my tailpipes where as they were clean as new before. Any thoughts?? Thx

Be careful when flushing the trans oil. I did it @ 100k and after a weak my trans blew into pieces.

I have an 03 4.4i at 96000 (built 06/03). At 88k I did the water pump. At 95k the Torque converter broke and formed to do the gearbox overhaul. At the same time I did the valley pan gasket and changed the coolant tank and the fan clutch.

I am getting ready to change the front struts and the front suspension bushings. Still not clear to me is when I will tackle the chain guides and valve cover gaskets.

The engine is running better than ever at this point!

Good luck with your 03!

Mines got 85K on the dial. So far I've changed all the window regulators, sunroof gasket, Valley Pan gasket, spark plugs, water pump, thermo, all seals and gaskets on the top half of the motor, battery, CV boots, and various bulbs and crap. So far, nothing really major. Only major problem was that valley pan gasket.

Now there is controversy about changing the fluid, but mine has been shifting fine and do not want to risk it, so I will leave it.

And as for fuel. I try to only put in Sunoco Ultra 93. I've noticed if I go lower than 91, my CEL comes on. As soon as I fill with 93, it goes out. It sucks to find +/- 10% ethanol mixed in because it burns like crap IMHO, but its hard not to find blended fuel anymore.

Only ~18K on the '04 V8. but it'll clear 19K on the way home this weekend. I haven't done anything but mod it since I picked it up in Feb of this year. I'll run through the fluids- transmission included- at 20K. It's been 7 years, so it's more about time than miles.

The '04 i6 had a few regulators (CPO), a water pump, alternator, and probably some little things I am forgetting. I only drove it for a year outside of the CPO/extended maintenance combo. Within that time, I changed the fluids on my own a few times according to old school maintenance.

Before I get stranded like I did with one E39 and *almost* did with my second, I will probably do the same aluminum radiator and electric fan mod on the 4.8is. It'll just be peace of mind.

Just turned 80k on my '06 4.8is. I bought it recently, with 72k on it. I've changed the tension struts, bushings and ball joints after buying new tires and getting a shimmy, however it didn't fix the problem (going back to the shop tomorrow).

I always put the highest octane possible, usually Sunoco 93.
