4.8IS Sport Seat with Varying Styles?

I'm looking at two different x5s, they're both 4.8IS. One is an '05 while the other one is an '06. They supposedly both have the Sport Package.

The '05 seems to have the more updated front "sport" seats (see pic) while the red '06 looks like it just has the regular seats. Both versions are heated though.

I was under the impression that 4.8IS's always had the sport seats (segmented back plate & tear drop headrests), or at least the '06 more so than the '05.

Questions:

1. Is this not the case?
2. Are the seat styles interchangeable? Can I swap one for the other?
3. Aren't all 4.8s Sport Package trims out of the factory hence the sport
seats come standard? More so on the '06s if that '05 had them?

Much thanks to anyone helping me alleviate my confusion!

Your top photo shows the 'comfort seat' design and the bottom photo shows the 'sport seat' design. The comfort seat bends in the middle of the back and is adjustable in two upper sections. The sport seat has only one upper section in the hip to shoulder area. Also the sport seat has a sliding thigh support while the comfort seat does not.

All 4.8is came with Sport package as standard
All 4.8is came with Sports seats as standard and comfort seats were "no cost" option. This is from beginning of 4.8is prod in 2004. See 2004 std equip sheet below.

Huh! Thanks for the AHA! moment.

So the Comfort seats (being 16 way) are an upgrade to the Sport (8 way) seats then?

'Just thinking out loud here but what does one have to gain in sticking with the standard Sport seats on a 4.8IS when it's almost a no brainer to go with the Comfort seats especially if it's a no cost option? The adjustable thigh support vs the 8 additional adjustment points on the comfort seats, I would think the latter would be a straight shoe in.

What am I missing?

I'm assuming here but the Comfort seats should be plug and play onto the Sport seat wiring harness?

Thanks for the great help!

The comfort seats were not well understood at the time -marketing is everything, which would you choose on first blush? (gimme da' SPORT, durnit! I don' need no steenking caddy comfort shyt..)- I know that -now- they are definitely appreciated and some of us are very actively looking for them.

sorry for the n00b hijack, but -LeMansX5- is there a location for all years/models like you posted here.. my google/search skills are famously lacking.. I would, of course, like to hear of any Other post-facelift niceties, i.e., interior items like comfort seats, that are easily swapped to pre-facelifts, as well. The info is ALL here, just kinda' hard to ask the right question.

My 2001 4.4 has the comfort seats and I like those much better than the sport seats.

Interesting! My 4.8is has creme interior and comfort seats. That's one less point to get rid of it....... or is it enough?

Comfort seats may be nice, but there are still a lot of people who prefer sports seats over comfort seats, due to the side bolsters and extendable thigh support on sport seats. Comfort seats are also heavier than sporty seats. BMW started offering sports comfort seats in some other models later, which were a mix of both.

You can search forum, if any one has done this before.

Don't know about Google but BMW has a internal document which talks about the differences between pre and post facelift models. Most post-facelift changes were on the front of X5.
