Well I got cluster lights and tail lights or brake lights on all the time, even with key out of ignition.
I tried replacing the switch, and the cluster lights went out. But not the tail lights. So would it mean the LCM is damaged as well?
I didn't even try starting the car, but maybe because I turned the key to ignition, the second switch got fried too?
Now the cluster and tail lights are on again
So you tried to accomplish welcome lights?

Oh no I was just doing the parking lights.
Why did you think welcome lights?
I wired a relay now and will get a new light switch switch see what happens. I have an extra LCM as well just in case.

I meant welcome lights as parking lights coming on when you use remote or unlock the vehicle. Or for what purpose you are using this additional relay?

Parking lights come on when you remote start the vehicle, that's my understanding.
I'm adding the relay to avoid damaging the light switch again. This is why I have my cluster light on all the time as well as the tail or brake lights.
I should've wired it in the first place and now it's gonna be quite a headache fixing the issue I feel.

Would it suite the purpose if parking lights were activated the same as interior lights when you unlock?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean

My second car broke down, E39 alternator went out

I'll get a new one delivered on Wednesday and then I'll make a trip to the junk yard to pick up some light switches for E53 and hopefully fix the issue. I will then update the thread

Added a relay for parking lights, replaced the switch, changed jumper setting for parking light from positive to negative, now the car starts and lights and dash don't stay on.
I can consider this resolved for this part of the installation
