Thanks!!
Drove my X5 from Seattle to Maryland.
Had no problems what so ever and my friend and I drove it like we stole it.
Loaded up top with a softpac carrier and snowboard rack also tailgate carrier on the rear hitch.

here is an idea about our speeds:
Hit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon for sunset and drove like hell to get to the South Rim for sunrise (we made it in time to get a room and sleep for a couple of hours before the sun came up) North and South may be reversed but we did it.

P.S. The Valentine One saved our butts on numerous occasions during that trip.

May be doing it again since I have a lead on an X5m out of SoCal :-)

At the end of October I moved from Salt Lake City, UT to Miami, FL. 2700 miles towing a 4500lbs trailer. My X5 is a beast. It sure burned a lot fuel, but it performed just like a BMW!!!

Just made the same trip myself on the 22nd, will be here in Sparks until the 2nd. This trip will be through Boise before hitting Seattle, this time towing a 6x12 trailer full of furniture. I personally wouldn't worry about (and I didn't) because I know the service history.

I drove a 91 Mercury Sable from Seattle to DC years back, and recently drove my old winter beater 90 S10 Blazer (w/ 270k on the clock) from Boise to Seattle. I've also driven the X5 from Seattle to SoCal (Disneyland, Bimmerfest, etc) probably 4x now. Honestly, it really depends on what the PO has done to stay on top of maintenance w/ the truck.

Depending on the logistics of it, you're welcome to ride along to make the trip go by quicker, split the gas, etc. I have to be back to Boeing in Everett by no later than 2:30pm on the 3rd for work. Just throwing it out there.

Sounds good...make sure to bring it to Bimmerfest 2012 since you'll be familiar w/ the drive

Any particular reason why you're choosing the 3.0 vs a 4.4-4.8? It is only 1MPG difference, but the power is night and day. Sorry if I'm stirring the pot here

The reason I want the 3.0 is because it seems through the reviews and reports that it's more reliable and the repair costs seem to be cheeper but I was looking at a couple 4.4's..its not gas mileage that really worries me but the repair costs and reliability, I'm still not sure though, haha

Touche, the 3.0 will probably be lighter on the wallet, just don't forget what BMW still stands for....Big Money Waster and Bring My Wallet. Hopefully the one in Sac works out for ya.

17 and you want an X5? Your FIRST investment after the X should be a Craftsman toolset (assuming you don't already have a toolset). Preventative maintenance is key!
