20" all season tires

Hey all. I posted a similar topic a few days ago but I am looking for more responses. I am looking for a set of all season tires to out on my new 87's. I have done a great deal of research and have really narrowed it down to the Michelin Latitude Tour HP's, Toyo Proxes STII, and the Continental ExtremeContact DWS. Style when it comes to tread pattern is not a strong consideration of mine. I have heard great things about the Conti's. But also that the sidewalls offer a great deal of flex. Can anyone compare any of these tires to my OEM tires (18" Michelin energy mxv4)? As I said before, I am leaning towards the Conti's but am apprehensive due to some reports of squishy sidewalls. Most of my driving is highway driving in the Washington DC metro area. I like to think I don't drive my X too hard but I definitely would not want to be limited by the performance of my tires (within the realms of performance that an all season tire can handle). I have heard that the Conti's are great in the snow and wet, but not so hot in the dry. I have also heard great things about the toyo stii's but that the road noise can be unbearable (have heard very differing reviews with regard to this aspect).

Also, I know the OEM fitment for the 87's calls for 275/40/20 front and 315/35/20 rear. Has anyone gone with higher profile tires, say 45 in the front and 40 in the rear? What would be the highest profile I could get away with without experiencing rubbing issues? I realize that I will be wearing low-pros on these 87's but would like to explore a higher profile than recommended for the sake of my wheels, my wallet, and the seat of my pants (roads where I live aren't the greatest).

Thanks in advance for any advice you guys may provide.

Give it a second man.....it's a holiday weekend. I'll give you this....

I'm pretty sure you can't just add more side wall with out messing with the speedometer and it may have an affect on the transmission.

If you do a search on those tires, you might find some user reviews from our board. I've only run Diamaris and Bridgestones.....I also run Winter tread during the cold months. The wide tires on 19/20 oem rims are no good in the snow.

I doubt a supposedly weaker sidewall is going to have any affect on your driving....if you're not pushing it to the limits.

Spider - true I wasn't thinking about the fact that it's a holiday weekend, good point. Thanks for the response though. Happy holidays to all!

+1 absolutely.
Depending on where you live and what "winter" means there. If winter means snow do not even think about all weather tires. Buy the best winter tires you can get with that heavy truck. And go for the narrowest winter tires that fit - 235 is also too wide but there is no other option.

Good luck,

Helmuth

I live in Arlington Va, so not much snow but definitely some...not enough though to cause a serious issue with all seasons I wouldn't think

I have 87's and run Toyo Proxes STII for a second winter now and I've never been happier with an all season tire. I've heard a lot of good reviews on it and also for the conti dws but with the backorder on the conti I chose the proxes and it is a great tire.

Thanks for the info. Where do you spend your winters with the X?

I live in Chicago suburb, so winters are pretty crazy around here...
I don't have dedicated winter wheels and tires, so I'm always extra careful with the wide tires but overall pretty happy with the all season toyos and they handle excellent in snow.
