All good points regarding how m54b30 lacks grunt in X5. But at least they aren't as much of a maintenance whore as their v8 counterparts.
I had an auto 3.0 x5 for a while and while it was never underpowered, it was definitely underwhelming.

Now that I have been daily driving my 525i touring 5 speed for a year , I can appreciate that little extra grunt you can wring out from the engine.

I never introduced my manual beauty.

It is a 2001 3.0i Sport Package Manual X5. She's a bit rusty and has been with many men, and one woman, however she's in great mechanical shape for her age and experience (262,000 km).

VIN: LH78794

Based on the pre-LCI production data that I received and posted previously, my car is
  • 1 of 13 manual Titansilber in Canada
  • 1 of 128 manual E53 in Canada
  • 1 of 543 manual Titansilber in North America
  • The most rare option in my car is the option S328A - Footplate, aluminum. It was installed on 2,876 out of 105,596 cars - I found this weird as a lot of E53's I've seen recently have this installed.
My to-do list, in no particular order:
  • rear subframe bushings (one is shot since my ownership)
  • rear ball joints (I'm noticing some big camber on the drivers rear)
  • rear brakes
  • waiting for OEM shifter assembly parts to arrive from Germany for a refresh
  • just bought some Style 87 wheels; I am in the process of removing the black paint that they were sprayed with
  • BC Coilovers
  • HardRace rear camber and toe arms
  • roof rack delete
  • install 4.6is front lip I have in my garage
  • install M3 steering wheel I have in my garage
  • likely more stuff
Onto the pics of when I got her... I immediately removed those 275/65/18 oversized garbage tires and went with a cheap set of 255/55/18 and style 58's I found on the forums for $300.

And my first mod - Imola Red Trim

Here is my summer car sitting on HSD Coilovers and Style 313 wheels. I am a big fan of OEM wheels

Well the time has come for the Truck to see the Doc. She went in today for some surgery. LoL. Here is a list of new parts she is getting installed, UUC Lightweight Flywheel 8.6 lbs., UUC E34 M5 Kevlar Clutch, UUC Short Shifter, UUC DSSR, UUC Steel Braided Clutch Line, CDV Delete, H&R Springs, Bilstein Struts, FR CV Boot, and Valve Cover Gasket.

She has been very good to me, and now at 93000 miles, plus
10 lbs of boost, it’s time to be good back.

Now that is my idea of a good time in an X5. Manual with boost. 10psi even with parasitic loss must put you around 4.8is or greater at the crank. Ever strapped it on the rollers?

I went through your posts and see you have an RMS kit. And that the owner did it all for you. Any chance he is still offering those? I hear I can bolt on with a bracket an old C32 supercharger. I am planning on going that route since it is cheap and will get me to about 290hp or so. That should give me 4.4 m62 performance.

It has not been on the Dyno since it was Supercharged, and at that time it was stage 1 at 6 lbs. boost for tuning.

Now, it is stage 2 at 10 lbs. boost with Methanol injection. The Methanol kit is the Aquamist which follows my injectors. It starts at about 2800 rpm at 25% pump flow. Depending on throttle position and engine speed from that point dictates the amount of Methanol the engine will receive.

If you watch the X5 V12 at the track, the passenger will say, “it’s nothing spectacular”. That’s at 700 hp. I believe it’s the Trucks weight that is a major factor. However, if you understand the weight of the Truck, then even in my case it’s fast and especially on a public roadway.

Basic boosted math is 14 hp. Per 1 lbs. of boost. So take the 230 hp. M54B30, 140 hp. in boost and 30 hp. from the methanol (which is conservative considering most get 40 to 50 hp.) and you get 400 hp. That’s the power output of a E39 M5.

So, I am very excited to see how the Truck will perform with the 8.6 lb. flywheel regarding parasitic loss. Also, I have a pre February 2002 (build date: January 2002) which should keep loss minimal compared to later E53’s.

10lbs with Meth injection?? Pics or it didn't happen haha.

Do you have a thread on your install/tuning? That thing has to be a decent machine with the manual and that kind of power

Gains from meth injection vary by application and baseline HP/TQ. It is not plug and play. Without a tune for meth the gains will be minor and could even decrease HP/TQ. Meth cools incoming air and reduces the chance of detonation so with a turbo or supercharger there is more likely to be gain out of the box. Since meth increases the octane, a stock engine ECU may allow increased timing which is in effect somewhat of a tune, increasing likelihood of gain. Regardless of application, to maximize benefit of meth you need some dyno time to determine the right nozzle size and how much meth is injected at X pounds of boost or injector pulse width across the RPM scale.
