Hi

the second pic of the x5 where the exhausts come from under the bumper

What you've done looks mint

But I fancy two round tailpipes out of each side if you would like a challenge

How about this? I added these to my 3.0d a couple of years ago, dead simple. I welded up a small H-shaped carrier bracket which is pop-riveted onto the back of the box. The exhaust tip fits onto the bracket with a single long bolt, making it removable if neccesary for repairs. Very solid, no mods or welding to the box and the original exhaust vents to the bottom as normal. I can post pics of the deetails if anyone is interested.

I also did an exhaust upgrade by changing the two rear mufflers and welded the twin tips to the muffler which will eaily come out from the two oval openings in the rear bumper. You can doa search for diesel exhaust upgrade

Like I said on my first post,if you SEARCH for 3.0d exhaust silencers, you will find plenty of useful info.
If you want to go for the "dummy" look ,then here´s a thread by our friend Fullmetaljacket, showing how you fit any type of tail pipe you fancy.

Further details of my mod:
After endless searching for double tips online I ended up using WRS slanted tips from Halfords (they now sell them under the Ripspeed brand). The tip diameters are 63mm. Brackets for L & R boxes are slightly different due to the profile of the box end, consequently I had to cut the tips to different lengths. The cut end presents an oval shape to the box so the flat of the oval sits on the bottom of the bracket. The top of each bracket holds the top of the oval shape and a long bolt passes through the bracket flanges and secures the exhaust tip. Making the tips removable enabled the brackets to be accurately positioned, especially with limited space to get your hands in. It also makes it easier to get at the bumper carrier bolts should I wish to remove the bumper for any reason. All in all this was a cheap simple mod which has worked well for over 2 years now.

Good day. I own a 2005 bmw e53 30d with 247890 km of which I emptied the catalytic converter by cutting it open and removed the inner part and replaced the two rear mufflers with straight through boxes. My cat had no sensors close by. The diesel is quiet though.

There was a drastic change in power and the car did not feel heavy any more. exceloration improved drastic. My beemer feels alive again.

Good day

I have recerntly removed all the inner parts from my catalytic converter and replaced the back mufflers with two free flow boxes. Also fabricated 2 tailpipes from 8" stainless steel tubing.
All was possible because of no sensors near the catalytic converter.
