Can someone explain to what is an I-bus?

I am installing a AVIC D3 and there is a pinout for I-bus. What is this and how important is it for my aftermarket radio?

The i-bus (info bus) is used for info and communication. The cluster is the brain of it. It is a single wire bus so if you ignore it, the cluster, radio, etc cant talk to each other.

The I-Bus carries the steering wheel audio control commands, like channel up/down and volume up/down. So, if your HU can speak to the I-Bus and receive those commands, you would want to hook it up so that your steering wheel buttons will work with the new HU.
