Warm A/C then loud bang under hood

Hey guys,

I've tried searching around the forums and I haven't web able to find any similar situations to what happened, so I'm hoping some of you can help me out.

I have an 04 3.0, it's been pretty much problem free and I love it. I haven't been driving it very much the last 2 months tho since it's summer I've been using my bike most of the time. I was driving around for about 4 hours on Saturday, running the A/C the whole time since it was a hot day. I parked and was sitting in my car for about 15 minutes with the A/C running when I noticed it starting to get warm. All of a sudden I heard a loud bang/pop noise from user my hood, then smoke everywhere, then fluid draining out from under the car.

My coolant levels are fine so it's not that, so I figured it must be one of the A/C hoses that blew. I looked at the diagrams from realoem and followed the hoses and couldn't find any apparent leaks or hoses off or anything. What could I be missing? Is there a hose that blows more usually than others? What's the best way to figure out where my leak is?

I hooked up an A/C recharge kit and there is no pressure and definitely won't keep a charge in.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Alex

Yeah... Reminds me of that joke where penguin had engine problems and the mechanic told the penguin that had ice cream on his face, "looks like you blew a seal!" lol!! Sorry guys... Couldn't resist!

Have a leak test done to find your problem.

Good Luck!

Refrigerant is a gas, not a liquid at normal temperatures and pressures. Must be either cold or high pressure to be a liquid.

But there is a bit of oil in the system, not enough that I could see it pouring out from under the car. Its only like 10-15 ounces.

Where about what it dripping from?

My mistake guys, thanks for all the suggestions. It was my coolant tank that cracked and blew up, it was my coolant leaking out everywhere. The guy I was with checked my coolant and had said it was full so I didn't second guess it. Got that replace today and we're good as new. Sorry for the misleading info
