I went with the Saleri pump. Reading the reviews of this pump seemed solid as OEM product so went with that one. It should last and honestly, if I still have this car at 326,000 I would be amazed.

The hoses on the reservoir had been leaking long enough that they were soft and mushy. Glad to have fresh new hoses in there.

The one I put in my 2001 3.0i earlier this year was Saleri as well. And the one I replaced it with was working fine when I replaced it. BTW, that one was a "rebuilt" one (according to the dealer receipt, which I don't believe) put on in 2004, with a 2004 manufacturing date stamp.

So your and my experience here point to good longevity of these pumps. But if you look at older posts on here, it seems like in the early 2000's everyone was complaining about them failing, wiht their composite impeller.

Yes, I read and read about the pros and cons of the composite impellers vs the metal impellers. At the end of my research I found the same thing. Early composite impellers were causing problems but had that issue had been resolved and everyone was happy and satisfied with the Saleri pumps.

I have a HEPU pump waiting to go on. The previous owner had just replaced the water pump when I bought the car 3 years ago but I noticed that the bearing does have some play. What made you decide to go with the Saleri pump with composite impeller for 50 cents less than the HEPU with metal impeller?

From my reading there was more concern with metal corrosion and failures than the composite. And the factory pump that came out was also composite. At the end of the day I guess none of it matters as long as you choose a decent manufacturer. It's just a water pump.
