2003 X5 Transmission Problem

Bmw 2003 x5 5hp24 transmission whining sound after oil change car runs ok for the first 1200 miles for my sightseeing tour after doing all that work on it. Then it start a whining sound louder when cold and slower to shift into gear.i check and recheck the fluid level and there is no leaks. I used Febi filter and Pentosin fluid.Feel like the fluid circulation is very poor.Being checking trying to get information on the problem and are told that Filtran filter is the best to used where would i get one.Does anyone have a solution to this problem of the whining and .Question (what the best tempature to check the transmission fluid)your help will be appreaceted.

What's your procedure on changing the fluid? Did you DIY? Drain and fill or flush?
Buy filter from the $tealer.

Do you have any whining sounds before trans fluid change?

Sorry to say, but why not stick with ZF filter and fluid it's readily available now (it wasn't when I did my first trans change back in 2007 so I bought Esso fluid), you mixing old ZF fluid in torque converter with generic new Pentosin, not sure if that's the source of whining sound.

Does it whine in all rpm or in a specific range. Yes I too suggest OE filter and fluid. The trans is way too expensive to screw around with cheap shit parts. The trans temp needs to be between 30c and 50c to check for proper fluid level.

Vehicle miles is approximately121000. I did DIY drain and change filter.Only hear the whining when it shift between gear 1&2 under heavy accleration it louder when cold. After stop and go for a mile or two the whining disappear. There was no whining before the fluid change

Yea I am going to theorize that your fluid is a no no, and your filter needs to be OE.

I concur with the above. ZF trannys need ZF fluid from the Dealer or direct from ZF. Using Redline, Mobil 1 ATF, or any of those others are just going to give you a head ache later. If you plan on changing the fluid and filter, you are going to need to do it a few times since you went from OE fluid to Pentosin; that mixed, then you are draining and using OE again. You may need to fill and drain 3 times to get the OE fluid at a right ratio.

Thanks i am going to oredr the ZF filter And Lifegard oil hope that solve the problem. ZF is the manufacture of the transmission hope their parts are OE enough. What i am going to do is drain the oil add the ZF oil run it for a week then change oil and filter to ZF OE.Because i dont see a plug to drain the converter or did i missed it. Question is there a plug to drain the converter.
