Holy shit, that is a lot of money bro.
You really should start getting in touch with that dealer. Have him watch the auctions, and online listings. Have him contact them on your behalf. He might even move your car for you. That is way too much money for both those cars. And yes, when I talked to them, no one would budge on price. When he talked to them, it was a different tune. I called a private seller that wanted 35k for his 60k mile 2005 4.8is. I just wanted to call him and ask if he was serious. He was, would not budge a dollar. Go figure. They are more rare, but seriously. I've driven 4.8is and 4.6is. Don't get me wrong, 4.6is is nice. But its the years that were an issue for me. The premium these cars seem to command is messed up though. $20k for a 2003, no way. Yes there are less issues with the 4.6is. But us being DIYers, I considered that negligible. The ride, as far as bumps and shitty roads of NYC/Brooklyn, the 4.8is just eats them. When the going gets tough, the IS stands out. There are not many trucks, that can be tossed around like this thing can. So either one you take, it will be better than most of the stuff on the road. Just don't pay $20K for a 10 year old car.

Some of these dealers are ridiculous. Although they are rare cars, it's still an SUV (SAV) that won't attract the same crowd collector/sports cars do. Most people want this as a daily or additional weekend car that's going to be a little more interesting to drive than a minivan.

Yeah I mean I found a couple of 4.6is's, in the color I want atleast, but the money they want is ridiculous.
Funny thing is after looking through the archives, the difference between the 4.6 and 4.6, price wise was avg. $15K - $20K. Now its like $4K - $5K

Have you decided which one you are going for? 4.4, 4.6, 4.8?

Well, 4.4 is out. For the same amount of money I can get a 4.6 or 4.8 depending on the year. Its just with the 4.8is, it is difficult. The ones close to my price range are 04 and I get weary when I'm working with a first production car. I'd be more comfortable with a 05 production date. But as soon as you get to 05, the money jumps a lot.
I'm leaning towards a 4.6, but if a 4.8 came along, then I'd jump on that. And I am trying to convince myself to not sacrifice on the color. I want Black Sapphire. My Audi is Misano Red Pearl, close to Imola Red. I'm kind of over the red now. Now I want Black. Go figure. lol.

If you see an Alpine white one, go look at it. I saw a 4.6, not sure if it was factory color, but my jaw almost hit the sidewalk.
Yea if can manage, go for the newest 4.6 you can afford. I would not go for an 04, 4.8is.

I got my 06 fully loaded, every package, sport, cold weather, and premium in the color combo i wanted for 14k. It had 100k on the clock when i picked it up and 12k more miles its doing very well. 1 look at it and youd never tell the miles were high. While not a dealer, i buy and sell cars as a hobby and it pays me too. I have a few tools in my arsenal, one being the ability to haggle very well,as well as other more concrete ways to finding what i want for a fair price. Im not going to give away all of my secrets but ill give you some advice. Do not even attempt to buy from a dealer unless you want to pay very close to what they are asking. They are in business to sell cars and they know exactly what their bottom line is. It is better for them to wait then to lose money. Im not saying buying from a dealer is bad, but when you are looking for a bargain stay away. Be diligent in your search and do not give up at any cost. Make it a 2 to 5 times a day thing. Autotrader.com allows you to set up a search that tells you through email if a vehicle within your search parameters has been listed. Check craigslist, cars.com, autotrader, even ebay has classified ads. Lastly and perhaps most importantly, never be scared to offer what you think the car is worth. The worst that happens is the seller gets offended. Boo hoo, walk away amd find the next seller who is willing to negotiate. Oh, never ever ever negotiate a price over the phone if the seller is local. You wont have a choice if the car is out of town. Search those sites nation wide and be ready to hop on a plane and drive your baby home!!

Yeah I mean there are a few 4.8is/4.6is's out there that I have saved in my searches. Some are not in the color combo I want (Silver/Blk) but are doable. I mean there is this cherry 4.6is in PA, it has 50k on the clock and look great, But it is a dealership selling it on consignment and they are looking for 20K. Now there is another one around me, 2003 BLk on blk 98K miles, likes great for $18.5. The price variants just make no sense to me. I just don't get it. I also don't get RARE car! I mean for the 4.6is's, the last year of production, of course the production will be low, but rare? I think not. Its just a sales gimmick. Now I am not going to say I have never done it because I have. If it is something I haven't seen a lot of I'll say, "Hell, it is rare" But especially with cars, if someone comes to me and says, "Look I really want it, but hte numbers aren't right, then I will work with you. But when dealers say it is rare, now they are just blowing smoke. Saturday I went to a dealer to go look at a 05 4.8is, I just lost my cool and got upset. Which means I lost, the minute someone gets emotional, that person loses. The sales person just kept saying, "It's a rare color combo... Hard to find 4.6is's... Your car would be hard to finance if we took it in.. That's where I lost it. I told him how were you planning on selling the 4.6is in the first place? Then, I said I am trading in a car with 30K less miles and is 3 years newer and in better condition then this 4.6is... Yes, I lost it. UHGGG just makes me angry when I can see clear through the BS.

Forget about finding a 4.8 for less than 20k. I found one for 18 once and it sold when I was on my way to look at it. Ill keep my eyes peeled for a 4.6 in your color combo when I do my searches. Why do you not want a 4.4 by the way?
