hey, I am just a low key, paper pusher in the government but the OTHER guys think that I am James Bond, or something... lol... driving a "restyled" X5, as they call the 4.6, added to their suspicion that I am not only pushing papers... hahaha... Some mechanics there were adamant in telling me that I changed the bumpers and did "factory unauthorized" boring on the engine, as such a model does not exist in the BMW line up... yeah, whatever, just change the oil and let me go... And the funny thing was, I saw a few 4.6/4.8 there, as a matter of fact I saw some nicely done (restyled?) units, with some interesting paint jobs, and interesting wraps... Wrapping a car with some designs is huge in moscow...
but what I really want but CAN'T afford, is the Security version of the X5... Check out these pictures - notice differences between stock and the other one? the last picture is of gold wrapped regular X5 in front of one of the "7 Sisters" buildings in Moscow...

Terminator - excellent stories. I always enjoy reading them
![]() As for this talk of taxes - yea, taxes can reach 100% in many areas of the world. However, that's nothing compared to the tax rate on new automobiles and merchandise in Denmark ... 300%!!!

)In all seriousness, the good side-effect of Danish taxes is that they prompt the Danes to produce some of the highest quality components in the world. Why? Well, the taxes are so high that companies have to make their products extraordinarily worthwhile in order that people will buy them instead of imported equivalents. The solution: make everything incredibly precise and durable. Two companies I could mention right off the top of my head are Vipp and AC Hydraulic. While I don't have any Vipp products, I have an AC Hydraulic jack and (8) 1500n-m jack stands (these stands are now discontinued and the 8 stands I bought were the remaining stock of brand new stands in all of North America [/end horn tooting ]). Yes, people think it's asinine to spend over $600 for a 1300kg capacity floor jack and over $100 for a single jack stand ... but when you see them in person and actually use them, you'll quickly realize it was worth it and you'll never want to (nor will you ever even need to) buy another one of those cheap jacks or stands from the auto parts store.

Hi guy's, quick technical question...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0kOrRRtU28 in this link the back tyre is spinning without the front tyre moving?? isnt the X-Drive suppossed to take over in a fraction of a second and transfer power to all other wheels? |

he should have pressed the DSC, then he'd not spin the wheels as he did... counter-intuitive, but works...

Actually he "shouldnt" have pressed the DSC because then he would de-activate it. And you want DSC to work in this terrain as opposed to perhaps driving on sand. I have experienced this on sand; LF tyre was in the air and RR was spinning in the sand. Could not get vehicle to transfer power to other wheels, even the LF tyre was stationary. Could it have something to do woth the torque feedback, meaning that there was no resistance on free-wheeling tyre??

just out of academic interest, if you are able to "re-create" your environment, when the car is not moving because one tire is spinning, the other is free hanging - can you actually try to "press" the DSC and let me know what happens? I know well what the sales brochure says about the function of DSC, however, there are engineering underpinnings that can not be changed just because the salespeople said something.. .lol.. you confirmed that the tires are spinning with DSC active - nothing is pressed, everything is in "normal" state... I claim, that you should press the DSC to de-activate it... I can not test my theory - can you test it? |
