The redline website states i should use 57904.
Since you don't have a LSD, using either is fine. If you had an LSD, using the non-LSD formula would not be good.

I didn't realize that the 6 - bolts holding on the belly pan needed to be tightened to a specific torque setting. The previous owner must have had the pan off at one point and lost a couple bolts as mine has two different size bolts.

Do these bolts need to be ordered from BMW or can I go to my local hardware and buy high grade stainless to replace?

Can anyone tell me what size the drain plug is on the differential? I was going to drain the front diff this past weekend while I was working on the left front axle shaft but I didn't have a hex large enough.

Thanks.

Searched a bit more and found the size of the drain plug to be 14mm. Any input about the belly pan bolts would be great.

Thanks.

Those are single use torque to yield fasteners, BMW charges around $30 for the set (nuts included).

FYI, almost EVERY bolt on a BMW has a torque spec.

Thanks for the note - I didn't realize the importance of that pan as it relates to structural integrity. I thought it was merely a splash guard and as a matter of convenience the bolts held the swaybar in place.

Also looked up TTY online - had no idea of what exactly that meant. I'm learning all kinds of good stuff here on the xoutpost. Now if I could only get somebody to help replace my timing chain. Don't have the confidence to tackle that one on my own.

Thanks again.

BMW recommends the X not be driven without that plate in place and properly torqued.

I think you mean timing chain guides. The chains should be OK.

There is quite a bit of clatter - on occasion - coming from the engine. Was thinking I'm hearing the chains slapping the guides. The PO had the tensioner replaced and tech noted on repair order that chains will need replaced soon. It has 150k miles on the clock and read here that it may be good to replace it before it lets loose. I bought this about 6 months ago and seems the noise is occurring more often. Also needs VCG replaced so was thinking do it all at once.

I've seen some of your posts where you indicate that you have original chains/guides and pushing 175k I think. Any clatter coming from the engine bay on startup?

No chain clatter yet, I have the parts and tools in the garage ready to go at the first sign. I also have the KW Var3 coilovers garaged and ready, I need to get off my ass!

Who do you use for parts? Looking for an online source that will put together a package of all the parts/pieces to do the chains, guides and other recommended parts.

While I would have handled your post differently, I support his position that your remark was uncalled for as is the above, especially when you insult him further and post "Let's move on past this" so it looks like any response he has to your insult is uncalled for. Since you are not the OP, I suggest you find another thread and provide help rather than invite confrontation.
