i just read up on the Bel Magnum... impressive... very impressive, to the point that it surpassed the V1 in performance... too bad it was not available 20 years ago... lol... You can call me a dinosaur with my V1s - but it is like having an E30 M3... still has the punch... even though the newer ones from the competition finally caught up...

on the other hand, somebody, who is on the market just now, the Bel sounds very interesting...

lol...

Beltronics is the subsidiary of Escort. My Escort 9500ix includes gps capability which alerts you to red light cameras, as well as speed cameras and speed traps. You can add these yourself, or use the Trinity database which has a small fee.

one day i will catch up to all of those... and probably even more... for now, i already have made the $1000 investment for two V1s, it has been many years ago... they still work, and i am content with them - even though, i must admit, i envy the ability to have the GPS, the speed traps and the cameras...
I have the carPC that can take the SoftwareOne for the V1 that still needs to be installed - maybe that can breathe new life into the old dog... lol...

Oh my God, i am dating myself...

Does the 9500ix detects a radar that is behind your car or only V1 does that?

Yes it does...many others do as well.

IMO people seem to give too much credit to the V1 in comparison to other RDs.

Had about 4 diff RDs one being V1 and in real life situations they all saved me at one point or the other equally...

the credit goes mostly to the directional arrows... just like their ads say, the Situational Awareness is the key... when i see the detector going off on the side arrows, i am not as worried... when it points to the back, i check the mirror, and monitor the strenghth of the signal, if it increases, i try to make sure there is not an unmarked cruiser... could be another detector, just passing by... when the arrow point to the front, that is when i pay more attention...
regular detectors, even with all the GPS and speedos, they do not count the harmonics of a given radar and do not triangulate the source - they just go beep-beep-beep, and then you have to guess, is it worthy threat or just a passing on side street cruiser... when you have 3 bogeys, and the arrows poiting to the front, and then you pass a cop and the arrow still point to the front - that is when the V1 comes on top...

The RDs are just the tools and it takes the human brain to decipher the info presented.. it is just there is more info that the V1 presents...

once the competition will put the arrows and counter into their design, then we will have a real competition to the V1...

here is video of two, side by side, in 20 MPH stroll in the residential area...

Notice, when the threat is passed, the escort continues to detect the signal from the rear but if you do not have an arrow, you might think it is in the front... if thee are multiple radars, and you are in-between them, the escort, while detecting both (or all), will mislead you into believing that the thread is gone behind you... Upstate NY State is notorius for speed "busts" when they have several traps back-to-back, just to nail the radar detector users...

Well the patent for the arrows has expired... and still nothing to get crazy about.

Dannyell,

You obviously don't like the V1. I'm not saying it performs better than others in its price range BUT I really do like the directional arrows. I could not stand the previous radar detectors that had me looking all around trying to determine where the signal was coming from!

Thats exactly what I was trying to say...

Now the arrows are a different story...those are great to have but they are simply a premium for which we pay for too much IMO.
