pano sunroof fix - anyone tried this?

Probably is, but I wanted to see the cable come through the other end because if it doesn’t it means the drain pipe has come off the sunroof connector ( I am thinking very unlikely). Its a funny thing curiosity. If the sunroof will work or not. ��

Its probably getting time to sell this car but I have done so much with it. Hard to let it go.

Actually, I do have a simple question about this tip. After removing the torx screw and pushing the rear glass down. Is it possible later down the track to replace the screws. I am assuming it is just a process of lifting the rear mechanisms with a screwdriver?

Thanks, good to know. I have already tried opening it with no broken parts yet so I was able to clean and lubricate the first half of the rails. The main glass wouldn’t go back all the way which is suggesting the friction is too great and the emergency kicks in and brings it forward. Going to try the 75sec trick next to see if I can reset it. Will post later on the outcome.

Quick question regarding this. I think someone has already done this as my front glass vents but not the rear. The front glass also fully opens just fine however was missing the seal that goes between the 2 panes of glass.

I bought the seal and fitted however the gap between the two panes of glass is very tight and when I tried opening the front glass panel fully it works although seems tight and when venting it went up but every time it tried to go down the gap must be too small/tight so it senses a jam and goes back up.

The only way to get it down was to take the seal off and then it worked.

Looking at the rear glass it doesn't seem hard up against the rear of the opening and looks like it has a very small gap at the rear of the small glass panel, enough that the gap between the panels isn't right and causing issues.

Is there any way to move the rear glass panel further back so it's properly seated? I've tried moving it by hand but it's not moving and I don't want to force it.

Hi homer, still working on mine. I haven’t had a chance to get back to it. I need to clean and lubricate the back section. The seal is meant to be firm. Mine was going back up too at one stage at the front but your talking about the rear I think. It would happen sometimes and not others.You need to make sure all the moving parts and rotating joints are well lubricated. Also, the flat part of the tracks. Any major friction on the tracks will result in a poor opening. I used a certain spray lubrication that I discovered from someone else that fixed there sunroof. Over many years all the parts get clogged with micro dirt, etc. Actually, it is amazing that all my plastic parts haven’t crumbled over the 20 years. I think the rear gap you are talking about gets closed automatically when the full roof seals up. I suggest if you try and force it you may break one of the plastic parts in the roof mechanism. Did you get a genuine seal? I’ve found non genuine parts on this type of car (eg door actuator, lock, etc.) cause issues with them being slightly out of spec. Anyways, I will be posting back here when I get this job done. Hope you find an answer. cheers

Hi mate,

My front section was not coming down after installing the genuine BMW seal as the gap between the two pieces of glass wasn't enough so when it popped up it was ok but coming down it thought there was an obstruction such as fingers in the way so it kept going back up.

The rear glass section doesn't seem to be seated into the back of the roof properly causing a smaller gap between the two pieces of glass than should be.

I pulled the seal off, closed the front glass from the vent position, slid it back open and reapplied the seal, closed and it's ok but bloody tight. I'm not tempted to go into the vent position again.

The rear glass panel has had the vent position fix where it no longer does it.

Apart from taking a rubber mallet and trying to tap the rear glass panel back hard I don't know what else to do.

Ah, I can see what you are saying now. The rear glass is stuck as you said because some very small object has got caught and jammed the rear mechanism(can be as small as a tiny stone, a piece of the mechanism has broken jamming the rear or preventing the rear mechanism to contract back. However, it could be a completely different issue related to the installation of your new seal. Is this a seal that circles the whole panoramic roof? I am not sure how much of the rear rails/mechanism you can see at this stage to zoom in on the rail mechanism. Good luck with it.

Have you removed the rear glass yet? You can move it a bit before tightening the little screws. If you haven't tried already just loosen those screws and rejigger it a bit.

I'm not really sure I didn't have these problems you're describing. Which I guess is no surprise these things are a disaster. Recently I have opened the headliner a couple times and got lucky but haven't opened the glass since last summer.

Where are these screws? I didn't know I could loosen screws to move the rear glass back and then retighten?
