ok, just to say my experience with these... I have been using a set of $25 e-bay 5w led bulbs for the last 2 years and I left one in and replaced the other with this new "dual resistor 4 tiny cree led" bulb. design looks and feels solid.
I turned both on and let heat up for about 5 mins before I decided to look at them and judge quality. Sadly, I noticed the cheap $25 5w led were exactly as bright during the day. I left them in and checked them again at night and the same thing, both were same brightness in color (kelvins rating) and lumens. I even noticed one drawback... the 2 metal cased resistors per bulb heated up a fair bit, but the cheap $25 5w e-bay specials were cool as cucumbers still.
Hate to say this but I wasted a hundred bucks for this r&d project.
OP, I hope you get your money refunded since it broke already.
so in summary... they are crap for their cost.

Out of curiosity which ones are you using exactly? And was your car ever coded?

Back to start with OEM bulbs again. Case opened in ebay.

Was it the drivers side one? If it was, there goes that cold monitoring theory I have. The driver side will burn every time for you. You need to code that shit off.

Yes, drivers side!
The seller will give my entire money back, ebay solved my problem.
BTW. I´m going back to OEM bulbs. I cannot drive my car thinking if the bulb or resistor are 100% functional... or if this will burn the entire car.

Sorry guys, doens´t work for me.

Chris

I wonder if, in addition to cold monitoring, you were to reduce the pwm values for the ae bulbs if it would translate to led's lasting longer. The shortened lifespan could be very well related to the CM ---as per your theory--- but the heat buildup while on sounds to me like they're being overdriven.

...hopefully TerminatorX5 comes across this as he's the resident PWM expert!

hey guys, did somebody mentioned dev... er... me? hahaha...

so, from what i see, the LED had burnt out, on the driver's side... Chris, remind me, did you program the Cold Monitoring out? how about Hot monitoring?

the chinese AE lights have some internal circuitry inside them, like capacitor (47 mF), induction coil, a number of resistors, while for a proper operation of an LED all you need an approppriate wattage resistor to drop the 12V to the operating voltage of an LED... and as a matter of fact, the wattage of the LED is not of great importance but the lumens that are emitted and the radial angle at which the light is emitted are more important... there is whole big formula about this, not relevant at this moment...

if i remember correctly, there were 4 square LEDs in the housing, right? all 4 are dead? I will re-read the thread in a moment...

Hi TX5,
Drivers side burned, but only 2 of four leds, strange.
The passenger side is ok, all 4.
