HPS deployment running over a curb

My wife was driving and dropped her sunglasses. She reached over to pick them up and ran off the road over a curb in a rural area. The HPS airbag deployed. BMW assist contacted her and was great. They stayed with her till the Police arrived.

I had the vehicle towed home (2006 3.0 with just under 50k miles) and looked over the damage. The two passenger side wheels and tires are flat. The tires have holes torn in them. The right front wheel is pushed back an inch or two. The right rear tire might be a little back, hard to tell till I get it on a rack. The Passenger HPS deployed and tore the headliner in back. I am getting an oil (?) leak from what looks to be a bushing on the right front control arm. Fluid filled bushings? I put an extra set of wheels on the x5 and drove it up the street and back. The steering wheel is at a 45 degree angle. I know I can rebuild the front end, she will need a new headliner and hps airbag.

Anyone out there replace their HPS or did you send them to the dealer/shop?

My wife was shaken but fine, no one else was effected other than having to drive around a x5 till the tow truck could arrive.

Naw, I better keep her. But she is now an ace, hit the house twice, two cars in the drive and now a curb. At least the curb will not press charges...

if you have collision on your insurance, let them handle this whole thing. and do it at the dealer... if not, then try any good indy who will get you drivetrain, the suspension, the wheels back into shape, and then you might be worrying about the HPS and the headliner later...

and it seems that your better half might not be totally "kosher" with you - check the cell phone bill, to see if she was texting at the time or whatnot... with a track record of hitting stationary objects (didn't you say, house, parked cars?), she does need a bus pass...

good thing, at least she did not blame YOU for the incident!!!! Was it Cisco's (member on this forum) GF that blew his tire and blamed him for defective car????

wow, that sucks about the car, glad your wife was okay... i agree with TermX - get the wheels repaired and all the leaks before you do HPS... From what i can remember from e46 days, those airbags are very expensive

I hope you'll forgive me for not being able to follow your reasoning.

I replaced my driver's side HPS, was a bit of a pain to reach the front end. Its down inside the dash, near the A-pillar or door jamb area.
And the head liner is an annoying job.
Don't underestimate how much damaged could be done to the suspension.
