What parts work with our E53 X5

I picked up my first bmw a few weeks ago (2006 x5 3.0) and wanted to make it unique to me and save some money

Coming from the Honda/Acura family a lot of the parts are interchangeable engine/suspension/interior

so i want to start a list of what parts from other cars work with ours. I know about the how to's at the top of the page but I wanted to see what u guys learned on the way

please be specific on year and model as the slightest difference can direct someone down a wrong path and wasting $$$$.

^No. However, the 4.8iS exhaust will.
Look on www.realOEM.com for part# cross reference and you will know which ones fit.

Part number don't mean shit...

If I used your example and used realoem and compared part numbers, the 4.8exhaust won't for a 3.0 cuz they have different part numbers

Let me try to give a better example...

http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...-wheel-x5.html

Now I know a m3 smg steering wheel doesn't have the same part number but it does fit

Well first off "what parts interchange is very broad", what parts would you like to know about? Have you done a google search of the forums at all to see if you can find anything you're looking for first?

No, M5 exhaust will not fit for starters. You can retrofit E46 seats though, you just have to swap over the seat bottom plastic trim pieces from the E53 seats I think, and there may be a different airbag connection but I'm not sure.

E46 steering wheels fit, and if you have a 2006 with sport package you have the updated steering wheel/airbag (3 spoke). With the newer 3 spoke airbag (more oval shape), you can fit an E83 M sport wheel as well if you wanted, since it takes the same airbag.

Wheels are interchangeable from E53's, if you get E70 fitment wheels you need 74.1 to 72.56 hub centric rings.

Idk what else you want to know though...

there are many things that can be used from a BMW bin of parts, the easiest ones are the Euro options not available inthe US, or some BOSCH parts that are same for BMW and VW, like MAF sensor or a plug coil, the nav units between the models...

some folks fitted engines from other models...

There is a plethora of screws, rivets, fasteners that are the same from E32 all the way into the F-bodies...

your question is super-broad, you will not get a definitive answer, as we don't know what you have in mind... you could swap the headrests between models... someone fitted an i-drive knob with the buttons to an E53...

i think what he means is in the honda community you can swap engines, full interiors, suspension etc from one model of honda or acura to a totally different model of honda or acura and most parts directly bolt on without modifications.

OP, coming from that honda game to BMW myself, in my short time of ownership of my X5 i have found there is not anywhere close to the amount of interchangeable parts in BMW as there are with Honda. This crowd doesnt buy a $2000.00 car to swap a k series into it because the factory D series are gutless, then add in CTR Recaros because they are more comfortable. you have to remember that most of these X5's were $50k+ vehicles brand new and when you were spending that amount of money at that point you just got the options that you wanted and didnt look back.
