New shoes...Continental Extreme Contacts DWS XL.

First experience at Tire Rack. They were great, sent the tires right away.

The installing supervisor at the tire shop very nice, however during the 4 wheel alignment they didn't seem to understand some basics about X5 jacking procedures. They actually thought they had to jack the X up using the rear leaf suspension in order to avoid the damaging the rear air ride. Or they might have or remove a fuse, or lift the hood to disable the switch for the air ride. By now I'm confused because I never heard of such a thing.

My response was simple. You have only one basic choice to jack up my X. That would be the four jacking points clearly made for the job, period.

The tire installer still raised the hood thinking there was some switch that would disable the air ride. Put the hood down bro there's no switch

Anyway job is finished but I need to return and get the steering wheel centered. Rear bumping noise from a bad tire is gone as well. It was a bad set of Michelins. Now it time to try this new set of Continental Extreme contacts DWS XL....

Nice! Let us know how they hold up... these seem to be a very popular choice for our cars...

Those are the ones I have on my X5 as well. So far so good, but I have them for only 1 month.

I've got about 2k on mine here's a couple of my observations:

1) Ride is definitely softer.
2) While the tires do howl a bit, it's negligible compared to the road noise from the duelers they replaced.
3) They seem to pick up every rock they come across. So I'm out there pickin the darn things out on a weekly basis to eliminate the 'click' that would otherwise result.
4) As expected with a softer side wall; increased body-roll.
5) At speed (130km/hr+) they don't seem as settled as the duelers were.

While I like these tires overall, I'm on the fence about buying them again. I like the softer ride, but not a fan of how they feel on the highway.

Just picked up set of these Contis and happy with em so far. Only had em about a month and already put 1500 miles on em and still have to drive back from FL to NJ another 1100 miles. Definitely very smooth and road noise is negligible.

My 4.8iS came with these, pretty much new. I'm not picky about tires unless they are for my Z.

I've got Conti Extreme Contacts on both my X and on my wife's 325i. Great all-around tire. Comfortable, quiet tire that also does pretty damn well in the snow and ice. Cornering and handling may suffer a little with the softer sidewalls, but that's the compromise you make for added comfort and wet/snow traction. They're probably the ideal tires to run if you don't want to worry about switching out between summer and winter setups.

Anybody ever have issues with these tires developing a square spot after sitting for more than 48 hours? Trying to eliminate the tires as my shaking issue. TIA.

I have about 4000 on conti Extreme contacts. Have gone through many other brands of similar rating. Best all around tire I have had and based on wear they will be lasting much longer.
