Help Please! TSI / Actuator Calibration
Hoping someone can help - I have recently fitted a new transfer box which I have read needs the actuator motor to be calibrated. Only 1 main dealer for BMW on the IOW and they're telling me there is no calibration that can be done. Is there anyone with a copy of the TSI for this so I can print and show to them to get them to do it? Also when I code read there is one code in the transfer box relating to the oil change (TRANSFER BOX OIL NOT TRANSMISSION OIL) needs doing which I have done but it needs resetting. They have told me this is also not true and that there is no such thing! All help appreciated! Thank-you in advance Hannah xxx |

The transfer case code you mention is probably the 'oil abrasion' error. You will need to reset it with a gt1 (I'm not sure the others are capable as there are some specific processes involved).
As is with the previously mentioned; it's likely it all has to be done via gt1. Search for 'oil abrasion' and you should get a couple hits with more info.

That BMW service adviser is stoned. They need to reset the oil abrasion with DIS or GT1 software programs.

In DIS/GT1 there are 2 repair options you need to carry out. 1) Run the Repair option to tell the "car" you have done the transfer case oil. 2) Run the Repair option to say you have replaced the Transfer Case or even just the actuator. A few on this forum say you don't have to.. They are wrong. I have DIS and have done it.. Takes about 2 minutes... I don't have TIS in front of me, otherwise I could get a printout of their (BMW) instructions stating this. Regards, Rob

I don't know about the oil, but certainly not for the actuator calibration as there isn't one. Pre-facelifted Transfer cases are different. In facelifted models, the actuator controls the clutch pack pressure to distribute the variable drive front and back. Prefacelifted models don't have clutch packs and are locked in a 40/60 (roughly front/back) configuration by a chain drive. I know the oil is different.
Maybe someone with a pre-facelifted model that has done a swap can chime in.

Before you post again...where you may require very specific information where someone may need to look up information to provide an appropriate answer...you may want to consider how you can help us help you better.
Please consider creating a signature that INCLUDES your model/model year/build date. For instance, in this case, the X5 uses two different AWD systems...someone went through the trouble to provide the info you were asking about...but what if you don't have xDrive...but instead you have the early version AWD system used up to the 2003 model year? That would mean that the local people may have been correct, and someone spent time finding information that you can't use. Again, providing your model, model year, and build date (especially if you require others to look up detailed information) helps us to help you better by providing you with the correct information that applies to your circumstance.
