Hi Guys,

I am going to need some help if that is okay? I have looked at the photos but I there is something very strange going on. I have a 04 Diesel with a pan roof and the screws are not in the same place as in the photos. So I have 4 torx 10 at across the front, evenly spaced out but they run the Parallel with the dash no screws run the length of the car. Also I can't figure out how to get the cover pushed back? Any advice. I will post some pics.

Your X5 is post facelifted which differs from the pre-facelifted that the original poster had put pictures on the board. So you roof is different.

Thanks, thats a good start. BMW change the roof and it still rattles. Anyway I will go and investigate it further there was one loose screen on RHS and I did the roof reset to no joy. I will use some cardboard and wedge it in the roof in different positions. When I get the rattle stopped I will the investigate that area and see what is happening. I will report back with photos by sounds like cover is hitting on the underside of the glass.

I have a non-pano sunroof that had the sunroof "shade" stuck in place. I needed to check the sunroof for function, and clean it and prevent future leaks https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...ide-floor.html, but tried for days to open it without success. I was afraid to use the power switch, as I'd never even been able to look up there, so I needed the shade pulled back first (to prevent more damage).

andrewwynn assured me that the shade was manual, so I used both hands and jerked it open (finally). It seems the previous owner had used too much headliner glue, and that was what was holding the shade closed.
  • 1) I got it open,
  • 2) repaired the headliner that was pulled loose, then
  • 3) cleaned the sunroof drains,
  • 4) lubed and tested the sunroof operation,
  • 5) removed the fuse,
  • 6) sealed the sunroof glass with paint protection film, and
  • 7) slid the shade closed for the final time (under my ownership...I hate sunroofs)

That sounds miserable ha! My problem isn't really a problem rather just how the shade functions. The shade has a stopping point built in so it doesn't slide back into the headliner but in the original post and pictures it shows he was able to slide the shade all the way until it disappeared under the headliner?
