So hold on. I would have to secure this digital format then?

And again, how does anyone find someone who uploaded this file to a file sharing site? I can't imagine it being easy to do.

You would need to purchase a Bentley Manual in the form released for sale to the public, then scan it for computer use.

If a legal proceeding were to make it before a Judge (this would be in the case of Bentley finding a "first source" PDF online, deemed downloaded enough to significantly effect sales), the fine for EACH download of that source PDF would be as follows.........
"the American Act requires the award of minimum damages
in the amount of $250.00 for each infringement, where actual damages are not proved."

http://scholarlycommons.law.wlu.edu/...&context=wlulr

That means each online download carries damages around DOUBLE the price of the Bentley Manual (paid by the person who produced the online PDF and allowed its download).
Sony was mentioned earlier as an example, and that's a VERY poor example. Seeing copyright holders act when sales are SIGNIFICANTLY effected. Sony is a multi-billion dollar company, Bentley a few million (the "time to act" trigger is a much lower number for Bentley).
And if you read the link, the court is not allowed to give ANY consideration to bankruptcy of the defendant, each 100 downloads would cost $25,000, plus court costs & lawyers fees/costs incurred. Again, no sane and/or smart person would consider an open PDF of the Bentley. Just because there's a lot of stupid in the internet, that's no reason to "join the pack".

Wow!

Over a week and no response?

Might be my attorney neighbor pointed me to the right link.

It shows SERIOUS fines (double the cost of a Bentley per download), with NO legal burden for plaintiff to show ACTUAL damages, and the judge CANNOT take bankruptcy of defendant into consideration.

You want a reply. lol.

This is all great. But there is no way in hell, that if someone were to upload said file to a known pirate site, that you would ever find the source. Oh judge, I don't know what you mean, I just downloaded it from whatever torrent site. Oh judge, someone hacked my shit, and stole it. All you say is BS, because no one, would ever find or trace the origin of a doc if you have half a brain. Yea, if you were to go on ebay and start selling it, you could get into some shit.

But I will tell you, I can download AllData, the full version, cracked, and ready to go if I really wanted too. I had it back in 2010. I don't think bentley is up there when other, way more powerful programs/software can be downloaded with the same relative ease.

The bentley manual is also a bad example, because no one would ever give a shit to bother doing this without the ability to sell. But I bet it can be made public and free without much repercussion.

It all comes down to possibility vs probability.

Not saying it WILL happen, just pointing out it COULD.

Showing how the law works, should the legal dept of a company with copyrighted data, identify an unauthorized source, and decide to act with a suit.
